Somewhere around 10 years.
Really? I thought the two of them were much closer.

No, in the movie the mayor specifically states Dent died 8 years ago.

Personally, my least favorite of all the Nolan Batman movies.

Green Arrow being one of those. In fact, Mike Grell addressed the issue in the first ongoing series. Green Arrow eventually just dropped the mask altogether after a companion resonded to his question of how they found him - "What - it was supposed to be a secret?" At another point, I think it was the police chief or something said something to the effect of - how many 6 ft tall, blonde haired guys with goatees do you think are running around this town?

Secret identity? Hmmmm....

Later, after being arrested in one of the more recent series, someone unmasks him and is shocked to see Oliver Queen behind the mask. Again - it was supposed to be a SECRET????

Lets be serious, in the modern era there's no way Batman could keep the Batcave a secret. Back in 1930, yeah MAYBE. Even if you ignore how many people know of it just from building it, today? Forget it. Hell, even in Nolan's "Realistic" setting do you think Bruce Wayne built that underwater monolith thing all by himself? No, the only way Batman could even begin to operate in secret is if you just assume that people in the DC universe have some kind of collective mental block.

I like Garth Ennis' take on superhero costumes in Hitman, in which the Green Lantern keeps making Monaghan and Nat the Hat buy him dinner because of his continued claim that there's no place in his costume to keep a wallet.

Well in Batman Begins it is implied the bit under the house was a natural formation -- or do you mean the alternate location seen in TDK? In that case, I would think all he'd have to say is it was some sort of top secret Wayne Enterprises project and he needed a really deep, concrete hole for it. The man has enough money that a secret black project probably won't seem that unreasonable and if you contract different parts to different groups (like we here them talking about in BB regarding the batman cowl on the suit) it isn't impossible that he'd be able to keep it's true purpose a secret.

On another note, if Thomas Wayne was a doctor and worked in a hospital, where did Wayne Enterprises come from?

Maybe Thomas Wayne inherited from his father?

It seems to me that the Wayne family fortune must go back some number of generations. As to the Cave it wasn't developed much in BB before Wayne Manor was burned down, however by the time of TDKR the batcave was quite fully developed with a computer console and the landing pad that rose out of the water. Presumably this was built during the time of The Dark Knight when the rest of the Manor was being rebuilt. Either way, there must have been a healthy workforce on the project.

Exactly, and in this era of smartphones and youtube do you really think no one would put it together? Hell, the accountant figuring out who Batman was in TDK was the most realistic part of the movie. Though the second the tumbler showed up in the original film there should have been several thousand people all losing their collective shit.
