Knights of the Old Republic

Post by Teaos »

I was playing the KOTOR computer game while on my last contract (yeah I did work hard) and thought the general plot and story has to be one of the strongest stories ever told in gomputer game format.

I was wondering anyone knows of any good books based around this time frame? 20k before the "modern" star wars?

I enjoyed the heck out of this myself; I'm looking forward to getting around to KOTOR2 at some point.

Actually, Taeos, Kotor is based 4k before the movie era...

But I did enjoy the story too...

Kotor 2 was off to a nice start as well, but then you actually feel how rushed it was during devellopment, even before you read they truly rushed it and left dangling plots all over the game...
The truth always depends on which side of the fence you're standing... ;)

Knights of the Old Republic video game is loosely based on the Tales of the Jedi comic books. The game takes place roughly 40 years after the war depicted in the comics. I can't say the series of comics were "good" with the exception of the last series "Redemption."

Here is a wiki to the Tales of the Jedi series. Spoilers abound in the wiki, of course.

If you just want to know what are the comic books, here they are:
Tales of the Jedi: The Golden Age of the Sith (1997) - 5,000 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-229-8
Tales of the Jedi: The Fall of the Sith Empire (1998) - 5,000 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-320-0
Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic (1994) - 4,000 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-020-1
Tales of the Jedi: The Freedon Nadd Uprising (1995) - 3,998 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-307-3
Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith (1996) - 3,997 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-095-3
Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War (1996) - 3,996 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-173-9
Tales of the Jedi: Redemption (2001) - 3,986 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-56971-535-1
Star Wars Omnibus: Tales of the Jedi Volume 1 (2007) - 5,000-3,999 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-59307-830-7
Star Wars Omnibus: Tales of the Jedi Volume 2 (2008) - 3,998-3,986 BBY ISBN Code: ISBN 1-59307-911-7

Ah damn I was hoping for a series of novels. It seems like such a rich time for the universe in terms of lore.

Found some actual novels based on the Knights of the Old Republic games:
The Old Republic: Revan (2011), by Drew Karpyshyn (3954 BBY) (A)
The Old Republic: Deceived (2011), by Paul S. Kemp (3653 BBY) (A)
The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance (2010), by Sean Williams (Sometime after 3643 BBY) (A)
The Old Republic: Annihilation (2012), by Drew Karpyshyn (3640 BBY) (Release November 13, 2012) (A)
I cannot say if any are good. All I ever done was wikipedia the books. I think these all have something to do with the MMO game The Old Republic. Drew Karpyshyn was a writer on Knights of the Old Republic video game.

Revan and Deceived are excellent. Have not yet gotten to the other two.

Revan ties in both KoToRs as well as a hint at the MMO, while Deceived covers the events leading up tot he MMO.
