Earth's atmosphere is so thin you wouldn't usually see a laser - there's not much point to them if they're having their energy scattered all over the place, as it would be if the beam were visible.Vic wrote:Is Mars atmosphere so thin that one wouldn't see a laser beam?Mikey wrote:Umm... you can't actually see a laser beam...

Ordinarily you have to scatter something in front of a laser beam to make it visible: fog, smoke, etc.

One wonders if it'll find either evidence of life or actual microbes themselves.

When I first saw it, I thought, 'no way, that's from a sci-fi show or CGI or something' but no, there you have the sort of HD photographs that the vehicle will be constantly broadcasting. I'm sure one day, maybe even within our own lifetimes, we'll see a streaming web-cam on Mars

Streaming webcam if mars... Both epic and utterly boring all at the same time.
I'd probably just end up TiVoing it.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.
