Considering Vs debates are a no-no here, we'll have to take what is presented in story at face value except when interacting with elements indigenous to its own universe.McAvoy wrote:I am just hoping your story doesn't get too deep into the versus camp of fanfiction.
Though I do like the story so far.

Naturally.
What I meant was that alot of crossovers have a tendanecy to... highlight the best of one over the expense of the other. Others just take it too far.

Indeed. Is this story nudging up to the "no versus" rule O Esteemed Moderator?McAvoy wrote:I am just hoping your story doesn't get too deep into the versus camp of fanfiction.

...I never said anything about discussing versus debates. My point was is that when it comes to crossover fanfiction, many like to highlight the bad of the one side and show off the good on the other.
After reading many of those types, I prefer where it's more or less equal regardless of the 'facts'. More focus on the social and characters when during a crossover. Example would be Captain American vs. Batman. They fight and then realize they don't know why they are fighting and just leave. True Marvel/DC story by the way.

My apologies, I should've made my post more clear. It wasn't a direct response to your post so much as your post making me wonder if Seaforts story was brushing the "no versus" rule OR, is it more like WNJHGB where its more a story of their interaction?McAvoy wrote:...I never said anything about discussing versus debates. And it's not limited to ST/SW, oh no. It's just...

Yeah it's not limited to even scifi.

This is a very good story, though. Lemme reiterate that.

Just read the first unit. I saw the link in your sig so had a look, didn't know you had written anything.
Interesting start to the story and good characterization so far which is usually the hardest to do. Its very hard to write a good Data, but you seem to have a decent hold on it.
Riker is always a fun character to read and I imagine to write as well.
I'll work my way through the next units during the rest of the week.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: Across the Universe - part four now up
Rochey's and Striker's fics got me thinking "why not?", so I decided to have a crack at it. I keep meaning to come back to this, but 1) inertia's hard to overcome and 2) there are bits of the story as it stands that I'm not entirely happy with. I'm leaning towards starting a version 2 - scrub through what's already done to tweak/fix bits that I think could be improved, and then carry on from there.Teaos wrote:Just read the first unit. It's easy to keep writing. To start writing is a whole different beast.

It's easy to keep writing if you know where you're going. If you're still working out the details as you go, or if you realise you're having to force the plot to fit what you previously worked out, then it gets tricky.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:It's easy to keep writing.
