Because it was an easy way for the writers to introduce the conflict, of course!

Ahh...early TNG :)

I remember reading that Patrick Stewert lived out of a suitcase the entire first season, because he fully expected the show to get cancelled.

Hmmmmm....I wonder why?

What the hell was a midpuberty teen boy doing running round a planet full of half naked sexually forward women?
"You ain't gonna get off down the trail a mile or two, and go missing your wife or something, like our last cook done, are you?"
"My wife is in hell, where I sent her. She could make good biscuits, but her behavior was terrible."

He was living the dream, my friend.

Unfortunately, he woke up before he figured out what the hell he was supposed to do.

Yar: "They'll have sex at the drop of a hat." And with that haircut I think we can safely assume she meant the women.

Wesley, "Let's go play ball!"
Edo Girl, "Play with your ball? You've only got one?"
Wesley, "No, baseball, I'll teach you!"
Edo Girl, "Well ok, do I have to keep my clothes on?"
Wesley, "Sure, why would you take them off?"

Riker, "Gawd damn it Wesley."

Dude, if you would have said yes, I totally would have excepted it. ESPECIALLY from a Season 1 Wesley.
