I just caught "Generations" yesterday, and it strikes me that it was just a bit too easy for Sorin to hack Geordi's VISOR and for his rigged VISOR to go undetected. One might think transmissions would be more closely monitored in a combat situation...

Hell, the events of "The MInd's Eye" had already demonstrated that the VISOR could be a security hole.

Maybe that's why he switched to the implants - less prone to being bugged.

The Implants looked so much cooler. The VISOR just looked a bit like a prototype of the technology for the implants.

I think the actor could actually see out through the implants, too. It must have been hell on Earth for poor LeVar to spend seven years with that thing over his face for hours every day.

He actually would be blind then. Thats not why he has the VISOR, its because he has it.

Well Levar did say that the VISOR prop was so close to his eyes and the rods in it was wide enough for him to see just fine. It is interesting to note that he did go through a couple of variations of it. The first looked more or less the hair comb thingie with the rods not connected top to bottom and the later one was connected top to bottom. IU, you could say that the VISOR was upgraded.

There is talk at least in the early seasons that he could have had implants but my impression is that he was so used to having the VISOR and what he saw that he never wanted it.

That and it lessens the impact of him being blind. That was a big part of Geordi's schtick. He was blind but through technology he could see. That was really the whole point of the VISOR, to remind you of his disability and to represent his overcoming it.

Power of Character Flaws, right.

Going by that, you would think there be some sort of device you could attach to Picard's head to replicated hair or a hair do of his choosing. Or Janeway having an implant that would give her medicine every time she goes bi polar. Seven probably has it to inflate her tits though.

Hmm, it's true that they never catalogued the entire list of "Borg implants."

With things as cosmetic as hair, though, wouldn't such vanity have been superceded during man's quest to never get paid for working "better himself?"

Perhaps.

Obviously the technology is there for Picard to have a full head of hair.

*Sigh* No, but if all you're going to do is give the guy bionic eyes what's the point of even making him blind? At that point just toss the whole blind thing and forget about it.

Blind and bald aren't exactly comparable, unless you think Picard's brain was in danger of freezing to do inadequate insulation.
