"Tales from" Series (aka the Cantina Trilogy)

Post by Griffin »

Found all 3 in my college library today, are they any good?

I've borrowed the first one, "Tales from the Mos Eisley cantina", and so far its pretty good.

Bounty Hunters > Mos Eisley Cantina > Jabba's Palace

My 2 cents

It's an interesting series and shows something I wish they'd do more in Wars and that's to get away from the central cast and just do things with other characters. The setting is certainly large enough.

Problem is that SW generally lacks scope and scale. So breaking away from the main cast would ruin their importance since the cast is supposed to be the only ones really making a difference. Thats the difference between SW/ST and 40k/DocWho.

Huh? Deep, have you taken a look at the Death Star recently? Or Coruscant? Or thought about the term Galactic Empire? Sure, Wars tends to concentrate on the actions of a small group of individuals, but it's got fantastic scope and scale behind it.

I'd lump Who into the first category. Sure, the possibilities for settings are literally endless, but the stories themselves are heavily focused on a small group of characters, more so even than Wars.

I was referring to the characters.

With Doctor Who there has always been information about the larger scale. The Doctor's refer to others taking part in grander things. The imagined scaled is reinforced by the characters even if the show doesn't show them. Much like DS9 did in the Dominion War.

Wars is the same - there may only be a few characters' actions directly depicted, but they're determining the fate of the galaxy.

More's the pity for guys like me. They've been swinging that way in FOTJ. Leia and Han are practically useless... but get pagetime that should go to other characters... :bangwall:

To be honest, I've never carred for Leia as a character. Yes, she has charm and charisma, and skill as a leader, but in battle, she's a liability unless going up against a stock stormtrooper.

I'm pretty sure the first one she encountered on the Tantive IV would beg to differ, as would quite a few on the Death Star, Bespin and Endor.

I remember reading somewhere that she's actually the most accurate shooting main character in the OT, percentage-wise.

I'll try to look that up again.

Other then Endor, weren't all of those "stock stormtroopers" as Mark pointed out? Even then she only hit one guy on Endor IIRC.

I've heard/read the same thing, that she never missed or had a high percentage.

Leia had worth and was a revolutionary action girl... but it's just sad now.
