Fighting Tactics

Post by Nickswitz »

What are your fighting styles? What do you do to take down an opponent? extreme violence, minimal violence?

Mine is very simple, I aim to take down an opponent simply and quickly, usually grab their arm and twist it around them and get them on the ground. Past that I don't want to cause more damage than necessary. Basically unless forced I really won't punch someone, I don't like feeling their bone underneath my hand, it hurts me knowing they are in pain... Which sounds weird, but it's me.

If in a not one-on-one fight then I will defer to punching. Usually also using my elbows and legs to defend against as many opponents as necessary. I will usually end up looking really retarded defending in this style but it means that I am able to move quickly and block or attack as quickly as I need to make it happen.

So basically my fighting style is cause minimal damage with maximum speed.

I can count on one hand the number of real, serious-injury-or-death-possible fights in which I've been. So I don't know that I have a style. The only martial-art training I have is in traditional Greco-Roman wrestling, so my first instinct is a standard takedown: snatch for someone with a high or unprepared stance, otherwise a single-A or double-AA depending on the opponent's size. Beyond that, I guess my fighting style is based on feral instinct and desperation... and in one case, pure red-blurred unthinking rage and hatred.

Restrain if possible, disable if unable to restrain, terminate if unable to disable.

One word. Run.

Its simple, I don't fight. If I can't avoid the fight through diplomacy, then I retreat. If I can't retreat... well, I haven't gotten there yet.

I fight like a girl.

Avoidance.

Lacking any notable physical strength, if and/or when I get in a fight I plan to practice evasion -- I'd rather have my opponent wear themselves out while I wait for reinforcements.

Its not just about being strong. Skill, self control, speed and will are also important factors.

My fighting tactic? Be the guy that walks away.

I fight as dirty as I can. I'll pick up a rock, brick, stick, bottle, or whatever. And I try and make that first shot a crippling shot. I really don't WANT to hurt anyone, so if I can take the fight out of them quickly, there ya go.

Out of these i would have to say that will is the most important of them.

Also I have found that one of the best ways to scare the crap out of the opponent is by remaining steadfastly calm, if you get hit then just take it and continue your stance, it scares almost all non-military trained opponents, because they aren't used to it.

I've got the last two. Not so sure about the "skill" thing though...

Its pretty effective at work for me. Though that may also be due to the factor "most kids can't hit me hard enough to really hurt me".

Interesting topic.

Agreed. I'm well trained in a mixture of Aikido, Jujitsu, Jeet Kune Do, and Taekwondo. Unfortunately, my "style" is restricted due to my disability, so I usually resort to this:

I try to talk my way out of confrontations as much as possible, mostly because a lot of physical confrontations have no real reason to happen, beyond rooster syndrome. Or, what I like to call "Tiny C*ck Syndrome".

Well the whole idea behind the style I practiced, Shotokan, is "one hit to end the fight". So in a perfect world, I'd get a kick (I have nice, long legs and good balance, kicks work well for me) into the other guy's solar plexus, pretty reliable way to drop someone. Not being a perfect world though, I still place my kicks over any other tactic unless a punch, elbow, or other attack is better placed. I'd also include the head, stomach, and ribs as secondary targets if the SP isn't an option.

This is of course, assuming a fight with clearly less than lethal results. If I think my life is on the line, my primary target is the throat, secondary the knees (I'd normally rather not risk fucking someone up like that), all other tertiary.

This is however, all hypothetical, as despite a decade odd of training, I've never actually been in a real fight. Some of the more involved sparring matches I've been in lead me to figure the above would be my tactics of choice, but who really knows what might come out in a real fight.

Man, getting jumped by a bunch of Crips is not the ideal situation to learn, but I can tell you: most training goes out the window, and you'd better hope your training has influenced your instinct.

Also, it appears that we'd really be the wrong group of nerds to f*ck with.
