Mobile browser users

Postby IanKennedy » Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:18 am

OK, here's something to test for all you mobile browser users. It's a mobile friendly version of the site:

http://www.ditl.org/indextouch.php

It does away with the frames version of the site and replaces it with a single page at a time. So, the questions are:

How does it work for you?
Are there any display problems?
What would you change if you could?

Please say what browser you are using and which device.

That's awesome, Ian. Just awesome. I'm using a LG Dare on Verizon Wireless, with the Teleca Browser - Q7.0-1.3

Some very minor issues:
1) on the sub-lists (e.g., if I select "Federation Ships,") the text doesn't fit the buttons.
2) on individual entries, the nav buttons for the entry don't seem to be in the proper order. E.g., when I clicked on the entry for the Excelsior class, the nav buttons were in the following order: "Specs," "Images," "Size Comp 2," "Internals," "Size Comp." Hardly a diminishment of the site, however.
"You fought with Captain Reynolds in the war?"
"I fought with a lot of people in the war."
"And your husband?"
"I fight with him sometimes, too."

Any one you can remember in particular? The page that draws the pictures, in fact all pages, are the same as the main site. It could be they aren't working there.

None of the comparision charts work, the sizes are there, but the pictures won't come up... I only did the comp chart with the Constitution in Temporal ships though...

NVM, none of them worked, just checked like 4 more...

Yes, I know about that one. Size charts for both ships and Stations, plus the size charts themselves. It's because it can't figure out what size the window is. I've been thinking about changing the way that works for a long while. Perhaps this is the time to do that.

Ok, It's not too bothersome, I can still figure out which each ship is, I'll check out the other pics to see if they work too.

They all work fine.

Well, it's now working. All three size comp pages are now working on my iPhone. Ships, stations and the full sizecomp section.

Same device/carrier as Mikey, and this version does make the site much easier to browse on a mobile device.

If the sub-menus do not look like the main menu that's an issue. I'll look at making it work correctly.

Ah, this is because it's doing them in two rows, the same as it does with the main site, but it does it without going onto a new row. Again I can look at the way this is rendered in this version. Every page header is constructed using the same file so it should be simple to make it work better.

OK, both of those things are fixed:

- You should see all menus shown like the primary menu is.
- The next thing is the buttons on the individual pages, these should now be in a more logical order.

Plus I've been working on some of the pages. For example the episodes and film pages. These are changed on mobiles as follows:

- Lists like the cast list are shown in a single column rather than two.
- Images on these pages are shown in two columns rather than four.

The size comp selector lists in the size comp section are now in a single list when mobile, rather than four on a laptop.

OK, this is now fully working and a link is available on the main menu. Once you switch to the mobile version on a device you will be kept on that version until you switch back. There's a link at the bottom of the main mobile menu to get yo back to the standard version of the site.
