Am I the only one who'd use the tech we gain to support our modern military? Maybe not flood them with new space tech but use it to start advancing at a faster rate.

But if you tip the balance of to quickly the other powers become nervus. You could end up costing more lives than saving.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Its not just American lives though. All of our allies (well - Japan, Korea and the UK + commonwealths) could benefit.

Well yeah. But the American ones would come first in my book. I'm an asshole America First kind of guy like that
But on the other hand I've always held the belief that nationalism should fade once alien contact is made. So... maybe that's anachromatic thinking on my part.

I myself would rather have all my allies working together rather then horde things for myself. The US may be a super power on its own... but the US/UK+CW/Japan/Korea combined are greater still.

I agree. I just care more about American lives / jobs over other countries. But in light of alien threats I would have to grow and begin seeing past country lines same as everyone.Deepcrush wrote:I myself would rather have all my allies working together rather then horde things for myself. Ah, the one the Ori Prior was protecting so the energy would help to expand the shield, eventually encompassing the planet, and causing it to contract into a singularity?Monroe wrote:Gate would have survived a nuke strike. Basically, the Gate was protected, and energy was diverted to increase the shield.
As to my suggestions, I'd go for the economic benefits of the Stargate.
One person had an X-Com/Stargate crossover, and it pointed out that you could use the pair of gates for effectively infinite orbital capacity. Just send one of the gates to orbit, and use the other one to dial out. Send your orbital stuff to another planet, then activate the gate in orbit. Send the satellites and other stuff back, already in orbit. You can also use it to refuel ships in orbit, provide supplies, allow astronauts to come home easily, etc. Of course, you'd have to hide it in a large storage container in one of the Space Station pods (unless the whole world was told about the Stargate program). Later on, you'd use the Ring transporters for faster access.
One stunt to pull is with the Staff weapons, and the small power gizmo inside them. Use those as independant power supplies for an outpost, or for a heck of a laptop battery.
As for the rest, I'd be grabbing as much alien tech as allowed, and putting as much as possible into research programs to develop my economy. Those virtual reality pods can be used for military training, the healing devices (once modified to use an on/off switch and a Staff power cell) would do great for medical, and if I get an Ancient Repository, I'd figure out as way to hook up a video camera and a large hard drive, so I can download bits of data at a time.
If nothing else, I'd be ordering schoolbooks from the Tollan. "We're not ready for technology Y? How about Y-1? Y-2? 3?"
One stunt to do with lower tech worlds is giving basic technology to them. Water filtration, basic medicine, books to bring up their overall health and technology, etc. Hopefully, the fact that I give help to lower tech worlds will be seen by higher tech worlds, and they will give me some of their 'basic' technology.

I like the idea of limiting the tech you hand out to aid. Medical, food and water treatment, education. Giving over weapons is risky.
I also just thought about something. Replace all my nations fighter craft with F-302's and replace my surface navy with Daedalus-Class ships.

That will likely take a very long time. Besides, press of other nations will instantly find out (sneaky little bastards) and will publicize your otherworldly fleet. I dont know whether you have told the world of the aliens yet...

If we were in control from the get go, we'd have ten years to make the switch over. Plus I have a totally different view on foreign policy so I wouldn't have as much overseas trouble to deal with. If people find out then thats fine. Not really anything they can do about it.
By the time the rest of the world learns of it. My nation and its allies will already have made change over.

I got another improvement. While its nice they added marines to the security details I would make sure the off world teams had two special forces such as delta forces or SEALS, and the other two for the science and historian experts. Having air force personnel as the security half of a four man team just doesn't seem too smart when you have access to people like Delta force.

Personaly I could never figure out why the SGC was controlled and run by Air Force personel. Surely it'd make more sense for it to be under the Army?

Re: You're President when the Gate is activated...
Well Air Force makes kind of sense. I agree though Army makes more sense. While they are going into the stars they are doing ground pounding. And Rangers or Green Berets or Delta Force or SEALS would be loads better. And shouldn't the capital ships have navy personnel? It has marines on it and the marines don't serve the air force.Rochey wrote:Personaly I could never figure out why the SGC was controlled and run by Air Force personel.
