I read this today at work and thought it was nice to see the main stream media not regurgitating the usual puns and one liners about geeks etc.

Unlike the Channel 5 guy who interviewed Chris Pine & Zachery Quinto last night. They just looked at him with a tired expression when he tried to be funny. Oh my how I laughed when he said the film wasn't just aimed at nerds, what was your name again channel 5 monkey boy? Ah well when the film makes millions and you end up on late night phone in quiz shows I guess we'll know who was right

Well the reviewer is obviously mistaken if he doesn't think that TWOK is one of the two best Trek movies.

I'm still praying this isn't a mindless action flick. My one complaint about the trailers is that it looks like it could be any other blockbuster if you gave the characters different names. I pray there's the intellectual side still there.

Some of the recent TV spots I've found unappealing, because they just seem to be ACTION! ACTION! Like this one. But the reviews all sound encouraging, and Nimoy said quite a while ago that he wouldn't have been involved with it if it wasn't good.

I imagine they're showing all the ACTION!!! scenes to lure in more causal viewers who just want to see stuff blow up. Fine by me; the better the draw, the more likely it is that they'll make at least one sequel.

Agreed. There generally isn't time in a TV spot or trailer to show any sort of well set-up development or character interaction; rather, the eye candy gets the ad time. I wouldn't take that as an omen that this will just be a shoot-em-up.

The whole idea of this film is to try and breathe some life into Trek again. To do that, they need to hook new audiences. To do that, then need to show them the stuff that they want to see in the trailers. IE, stuff blowing up.
