Ken Follett

I read his first one "The Pillars of the Earth" and really enjoyed it. A facenting look at 12th century Britain. A generally love Historical fiction, a great story and you learn something. Provided you read the notes at the end to find out what was changed for story reasons you get a good idea of the historical period.

I havent read any of his latter books as them dont seem as epic.

They aren't, but still share his sense of history. BTW, if anyone is thinking this one, don't let the awful TV adaptation of "Pillars of the Earth" dissuade you from the novel - the book is far superior.
