Hopefully the actor's age will mean less running for The Doctor which will in turn slow down the pacing of the stories. I wonder if he will be a calculating chess-player Doctor and the companion will do the running about.

My hope for this is that they have decided to go rather less "super fast and super manic" with the character. Make him more normal paced and more intense.

I really hope they give up on making incredibly convoluted season long arcs, too.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

He also has a connection to Doctor Who in that he was in the unnerving Torchwood: Children of Earth miniseries. It was a more sedated role than Malcolm Tucker. He played a government man and he was the UK's herald to The 456.
