That's pretty much why I think the IG players should be "Officers" in charge of their platoon. In short, they will be the minion masters, and will be able to specialise their squads to be DPS, or tank or debuffers.

And if they don't, well, they'd be stupid, because having a ridiculously numerous army is the whole point of the IG. Make each of the factions special in their own way, and leverage it to make it pleasant to the different kinds of players.

Hmm.. and now I just have the desire to play a Minion-master game of the like of Overlord, but as either a Tyrannid Lictor as the main character, or maybe an Orc Boss. You could even have a IG commander. Multiplayer would be a blast.

Although the S.M. would be a bitch to fight against

I would certainly like that. So long as you can customize your troops. Valhallans > Cadians.

Obviously. Otherwise, what would be the point of a Warhammer game, if you can't customise your "entity"?

I mean, if a player wants to be a Space Marine, he could customise his armor at his leisure.

Why a player being an IG commander couldn't customise the troops under him? I personally think the Cadians are the coolest troops of the IG, but it's evidently a matter of personnal taste :-)

Although I would probably put them under the colors of my own IG army: with Tau colors, and waiving the Flags of the Tau Confederacy, the Gue'Vesa and the God-Emperor (but not the Imperium)

Well Cadians are default Guard. Yeah, they are pretty sharp looking and quite martial but they are just generic Guard for the most part. You've got to get into Krieg, Valhallans, Vostroyans, or others to really get the diversity of the guard.

And you'd think customization would be key, but then look at WoW.

You'd be better to look at Champions Online, where appearance is irrelevant to functionnality.

Problem with WoW is the gear you wear is how you look. Which is pretty counter-productive to the whole "customisation" feel, IMHO.

I had made an Orc Warrior as my first char ever, wanting to be a Blademaster. I turned out into a heavy-armored monstrosity. DPS-oriented, but still. (I could rank up with Mages and Rogue when it came to DPS  )

But I seriously doubt GW is going to prevent customisation. That'd be stupid... ...

but then again, they did forgot customisation when they published Bloodbowl.

If they put a battle cap in the game play then it won't matter anyways.

Since this is GW-sanctioned (obviously, because they haven't sued anyone yet,) I imagine that gameplay will involve somewhat of the basic dogma of each faction; i.e., IG means massive waves of meat.

The trailer showed Black Templars ( > Ultrasmurfs, BTW) but hopefully there will be customization options for each army. If not, I'm sure will be available surreptitiously pretty soon. I mean, one guy made a painter for DoW capable of both badges and armor/unis for SM, Eldar, Chaos Marines, and Chaos infantry - you could see the custom scheme (although not the custom badges) even if you didn't have the mod.
