No, really. Warrior Coven is far better than Warrior Brood. Goto still uses more similes than he needs to, but the editing is better and the time flows more.

Huh, just noticed this.

I play Eldar. Used to play Ulthwe (not with the big crazy seer council though). However the new codex kicked my forces square in the balls.

So now I'm proxying all my old black guardians for Dire Avengers (which they look like anyway so it works).

I'm also proxying around with a mechanized list that I think would work better.

For those of you having trouble playing you might want to consider Vassal. It's a free online thing for playing various boardgames. There is a mildly popular 40k module for it. A little clunky but it works (and you can save a game, which is nice).

Also before Vassal I had a method for playing 40K via play by e-mail. It works pretty well in 40k because unlike other wargames your models usually can't make any actions/don't make any decisions on the other players turn. Only in odd cases with mixed armor/toughness units, multi unit close combats, and a couple other odd things.

Therefore a six turn game can often be completed in maybe 8 e-mails each. Though you'll get a pile of e-mails from the verifiable dice server, and there are a bunch of quick e-mails if you do alpha or gamma level setups where you have to place units..

You could also use vassal instead of powerpoint since you can e-mail a map back and forth. But vassal doesn't yet implement the full range of units so you sometimes have to proxy which can confuse opponents. It's also harder to put readable text right there on the board.

Looks cute but I like seeing everything on the battlefield. Nothing beats the look on your enemy's face when you lay out 7 tanks on a table!

I love hearing people say "I have anit-tank squads... blah blah blah"
I look at them, laugh, and then say "Ok, is that all?"

I have always wanted to play Warhammer 40,000 but it looks far too expensive. for me at least.

Start small. You could build a small army for about 100$ (don't know what that is for you UK people). I often take along new players as fill in for my ranks. It gives them experience and gives me a special forces still strike force. The last kid I took was loaded out with Imperial Guard Heavy weapons squads. His imps made a very nice corner table hold and allowed me focus on other choices that I wanted. He had only played with that small army and new how to use them very well. Go to a local store and play with some of the other peoples or store armies for a while. Find out which one you like best then buy a battle force box. 90$ US, and you can start playing.

I did have one newb who kept trying things that would lead me to say stuff like

"You don't want to do that"
-Why don't I?-
"If you do it, I'll show you!"

Fun times.
