In table top, the only thing worse then Tau/Imperial alliances is Tau/Eldar Alliances. I could only imagine the threat were the two races to combine.

I've been seriously thinking of playing Tau but I abhor how they have the command stuff setup.

Wouldn't that be a good motivation to come together rather then spreading apart?

Each craftworld still had some fundamental differences that made them incompatible. Plus locations is a big thing. Ulthwe is right by the Eye of Terror, Alaitoc is on the very fringes of space etc.

I've always understood everyone but the Eldar. They seem at times to act so concerned with protecting their way of life. Then they just turn around as if it doesn't matter anymore.

So what do you guys think of the Eldar overall?

At first, I just thought they were one-dimensional sci-fi space elves. I still think that to a degree, but there is a little more depth to them than that. For all that they despise "lesser" races (like man) because of their advanced technology and psychic potential, they are still driven by the same motives: revenge, pride, fear. They are devious - with the help of farseers, they have a tendency to maneuver mankind into positions advantageous to them, with some plots beginning centuries before they are intended to come about. However, they can also be determined and dangerous fighters in a pinch thanks to the technology they can bring to bear.

The Eldar have always intrigued me, perhaps due to their non-compliance with....anything. As the quote from Abriel said, they are a total random element, because they operate in prelude to events hundreds of years into the future, maybe even thousands of years. It's almost impossble to predict where, what and why the Eldar will appear. It is also impossible to predict what they will do. They are the epitome of fickle, making moves and maneuvers that suit only them. Their callous regard to other races like mankind is, in part, the only reason they survive. They have developed a macabre absolute sense of pragmatism, and their only concern is preserving themselves and their empire. 1) because they need to hold on to their past glory, and 2) because their demise only feeds Slaanesh. Of three things, the Eldar are constant. Their arrogance over races like Humanity and the Orks; their fear over groups like the Necrons and the Tyranids; and finally their tenacity in defending their own. Of all the races, I would least like to back an Eldar into a corner.

I loathe them, I despise Elves in general but the Eldar really rub me the wrong way. The arrogance, the idiocy, the complacency. Ugh.

I didn't hate elves to start with but with all the "Strike First" no matter what rules they have... and now that the Eldar are getting those same rules. I'm about the point of just doing what Tyyr said.

I've played a few Eldar games in BFG and I've noticed how badly their fleet is balanced. Their 40k armies are okay, in WH though its total crap.

I would have made a kickass Viking.

I don't feel as strongly about them as Kendall or Tyyr, but I can say this - I sure wouldn't want to count on them to cover my flank in a battle. They have atendency to cut and run when their goals are met, no matter who else may be depending on them.
