British scientist aims to invent synthehol

Next to warp drive and transporters, it's certainly a much more plausible idea. This could be another example of Trek leading real life (if the idea pans out in broader tests). Somewhere in another universe, Scotty just groaned.

What a marvelous modern age we live in.

Heartily seconded.

that's one of the nice things of science fiction. It gives you the oppurtunity to think of new ideas, not per se constrained by science. The new idea just works, so you can demonstrate the effects. Then scientists can worry about how to replicate it and they have a goal to work towards.

I like to party, but I refrain from alcohol. Thus, this would be a good thing in my view.

In a more draconian fashion I can see people being given a shot of anti-dote before they leave a bar or club to force them to sober up before being allowed to drive.
