If you could get this thing to point upward, space flight may get a whole lot cheaper, right?

Sattelites are going to like that.
And you could make it a two-way trip by adding in just enough fuel to slow it down enough to fall back down again.

I don't think NASA has yet had its funding cut to the point where engineering solutions by Wil E Coyote are being seriously considered.
