They actually split it into before and after gunpowder.

Samurai vs Spartan!
Spartan decimated the Samurai
and after gunpowder

Spetznatz vs IRA
Spetznatz, of course.

Then last night, we had two law enforcement teams go at it, the German GS9 vs LA SWAT.
SWAT handly won with better gear and more OJT.

So they decided not to put them up against the UK's equivalent of SWAT?

Yep. Which IMO didn't work out very well. You have two teams of Law Enforcement professionals, meeting at a seemingly abandoned warehouse to slug it out. Police try to take people alive, but in the sim its a battle to the death. It didn't come off very well, IMO.

In such a scenario it'd be better to have each team try their hand at a single scenario.

Eg: A suspected arms deal between a local criminal group and foreign terrorists is taking place at midnight in an abandoned warehouse district. The area is well guarded by personel from both factions, armed with shotguns, rifles, SMGs, pistols and in rare cases some low-level body armour. Each team has to storm the warehouse, take down any armed hostiles, capture (if possible) the leaders of the two factions and secure a case of radioactive materials that was being sold.

Which team can do it quicker, more effeciently, and with a lower body count (on both sides)?

SG, I totally agree. When the matched up there primary SMG, they did just that...a hostage extraction with dummies. SWAT was 20 seconds quicker. But in the final simulation, I was thinking the exact same thing. Of all the eps I saw, THIS one I kept asking "WHY are they fighting each other and trying to kill each other?"

Unfortunately yes. They took all the winners of "the gunpowder era" (Pirates, IRA, Mafia, and Spetznatz) and used this logic.

Pirates weapons were too obsolete.
Mafia was untrained.

And thus matched up the two remaining in a five on five squad action. It was actually a rather close battle, according to the numbers too.

Well, there's a problem. Spetznatz vs. IRA in a fight should have been about as close as Godzilla vs. Bambi.

Not really, it was a pretty close fight. One of the closest on the show.

This was a DUH battle anyhow.

I expected better combat ability from the GS9. Though to be fair, LA SWAT is not something to mess with.

The different warriors or units they compare have to have a noted sense of difference. When compared, USA-SWAT vs UK-SWAT wouldn't have really had a difference. Not by the shows standards at least.

Because the show is deadliest warrior and not rescue me.

I'm guessing, then, that this is L.A. SWAT from after the Hollywood shootout?

US SWAT are police. Well trained and well armed, but still police.

UK "SWAT" consists of the Counter Revolutionary Warfare Wing of 22nd Special Air Service Regiment .

GS9 is counter-terrorism as well.

I never knew that SWAT was created as a direct result of the University of Texas shooting way back when. Interesting.

And Deep...Samuri vs Spartan, I was refering directly to the "battle" at the end of the episode.
