DITL Species 11- Government Type

Post by Monroe »

Week One we decided it is a Fungal creature
Week Two we decided that it would live off decay and consumption
Week Three we decided it would use ganglion- brains spread throughout its body in clusters.
Week Four we decided it would use spores in an asexual form of reproduction.
Week Five we decided that the creature was 'type D' meaning long lived but had very few offspring.
Week Six we decided that the species would live in large hives.
Week Seven we decided that the species natural habitat would be a primordial tropical swamp... leaning towards swamp.
Week Eight we decided that the species would have dominant traits of an expansive and industrious nation. But the nation is also protective- but not overly so, and slightly Imperialistic in its foreign policy and operations.
Week Nine we decided that the species would have a tech level on par with the Cardasians.
Week ten we decided the species would have a medium sized Empire.

This week we decide what form of government will the race have? There's a whole bunch of choices for government types. Because of week eight no religious choices will be on the poll.

Aristocracy- The richest Fungi rules. The titles are hereditary and very very little room for social restratification.
Authoritarianism- "describes a form of government characterized by an emphasis on the authority of the state in a republic or union. It is a political system controlled by nonelected rulers who usually permit some degree of individual freedom." Fascism is close enough to fall under this category too.
Autocracy- The Big Cheese.. or at least the fungus on the cheese is in charge.
Communist State- One party to bring them all. One party to keep them all. One party to rule them all. And in the darkness bind them.
Confederation- A loose network of- we'll say democratic- states. Very difficult to wage a successful war outside its boarders. Each state has power to leave or rejoin as its people decide.
Corporatocracy- or Corporate Republic as I've always heard it called is where a corporation, which fits our people's MO or group of corps run things. Just think of Walmart, Exxon, and McDonalds taking over the world.
Demarchy "("Dem" being short for demos meaning people, and "-archy" meaning rule) is a hypothetical political system run by randomly selected decision makers who have been selected by sortition. Demarchy attempts to achieve democratic representation without needing elections-it has been referred to as "democracy without elections." Oh god don't let them take them from Texas! This could be purely random or to save choice space based on tests.
Classic Democracy- Basically what the western world has. Federalism falls under this choice too.
Feudalism- Lords electing a king. For our purposes this differs from Aristocracy because only land owners qualify and this could work a little like a confederation in that each land owner runs their fief as they will. Whereas Aristocracy we'll assume the confederation element is removed.
Gerontocracy - Ruled by the oldest. Kind of like the bus in middle school.
Military junta- A committee of military leaders and officers runs the land.
Kratocracy- The strongest rules. Seems to be a common alien tribal way to rule for some reason.
Ochlocracy - Rule of the Mob. I played a game once that had Virtual Democracy as a choice where everyone was tied into a computer that allowed them to vote every day on every issue. That is basically what this is.
Totaliarianism- You take a little bit of the communist or military junta add a lot more control over the population and this is what you get basically. Every aspect of every citizen is monitored by a dictator. How he does it rather through communism or top of the aristocracy does not matter.
Robotocracy- This is my own little invention. Robot meaning latin for.. well I forget. But basically ruled by a computer AI.

For a complete list of governments I took from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forms_of_government
Fun read. Every government on there I looked at so if you don't see one here that was there, then its probably cause its close enough to a government type already that I could ignore it.

Please close week ten. And week 12 (next week) We will vote on looks. So you have until then to post in the other thread what you want the little buggers to look like. One vote allowed each but second choice will be the opposing political view point. The minority party (if party is applicable. Otherwise an exiled leader? :P).

I voted for dirty Commies. It just seems to make some sense for an organism whose society would have evolved without the natural competition for resources that predators would.

It just seems that when organisms aren't competing for resources - like those which feed off of readily-available decay - there is a much more cooperative social structure; whereas even cooperative predators, like wolves or hyenas, will tend to have a "first among equals" or alpha male.

I think a socialism option would've been nice. :?

So, I went for communism instead.

Close enough. They don't have to live to the letter of the government type. It's just a general starting point.
