Works of Randall Munroe

Post by Captain Picard's Hair »

This trained physicist, who worked briefly as a robotics consultant with NASA is now author of a pretty fantastic geeky web comic. Some of the higher science, math. logic or engineering context that gets invoked might be mystifying to the uninitiated or with insufficient geek cred; however, it's all very clever and funny.

(pressing the "random" button to bring up random entries from the past is yet another fun way to waste time on the interwebs)

Just yesterday I picked up a copy of his books "Thing Explainer" and "What If?" at the local bookstore. The former (published just over a month ago) explains complicated things like Sky Boat Pushers (jet engines) with diagrams captioned with entries using simple words (the thousand - or rather "ten hundred" most commonly used words, which doesn't include the word "thousand.") while the older, latter book is a collection of his serious answers to often weird hypothetical questions posed by readers.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wonderous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross... but it's not for the timid." Q, Q Who
