The Nuke Map

Post by Nutso »

Runs a simulation of nuclear weapons effect on a given city or any location on the globe. Power ranges from a small terrorist bomb (100t) to the Tsar Bomba (100 mt) tested by the USSR.

In what way?

I've seen this before. Not here IIRC. It's... fascinating to use.

Actually that's a little reassuring. I hadn't realized how much smaller the yields were on the largest Indian, Pakistani, and North Korean weapons are compared to what the US and Russia have had for ages.

A concern I have is that some nation, wanting to avoid being struck back, would simply load up a nuke on little unmarked yacht and have it remotely or suicidaly sailed up to New York or Washington D.C. Especially if you add Iran and other nations to the mix, we wouldn't be sure who hit us and so we wouldn't be able to strike back (unless we just decided to nuke everything between South Korea and Turkey which I doubt). However that requires the use of a weapon that those other nations could reasonably have.

For those smaller nukes they currently have if the port authorities can stop the boat by Ellis Island then battery park is out of even the Thermal burn radius for a surface detonation.

Obviously still a bad day, but not as bad as I thought.
