There was a discussion about this in the past. Well, I got this from a youtube comment. Seems legit.
American football is called "football" because a official nfl football Is 12 inches long (1 foot). Since it is a foot long and a ball, it is called football.
I guess the case is solved.

That would be interesting. Personally I would just like to see some of the rules loosen up a bit.

I have no issue with the game or its rules, just the players.

Sometimes I think they just make stuff up...

Tried to watch a football game once.....I don't know.....after about 30min the actual playtime was approx. 5minutes, rest commercials, breaks etc........found the cheerleaders to be quite a bit more interesting, optically and athletically, to be honest. Also saw a marching band once prior to a match...was also much more interesting.

It's not that the game is boring or uninteresting (like baseball)...but the permanent interruptions after each game move, constant breaks and commercials....I don't know...not my cup of tea.

Well its not as face paced as soccer or Hockey. Its more of a game of chess than anything else. Except each chess piece is a trained player with strengths and weaknesses with different strategies to win or defend.

You can easily watch a DVR'd football game in about 10 minutes using the 30-second skip. Watch a play, hit skip, they are starting the next play, watch the play, hit skip, etc etc etc...

I can watch it, but it's more 'background noise' for me. I can put it on and do something else and not feel like I've missed much of anything.
