You have long enough for the definition of such things to change over time. And enough time for may wars, who's results can be both good and bad. Cromwell was a mixed blessing, he was part of the movement that resulted in parliament being independent of the monarchy and thus giving us a stronger democracy. He was a bit of a religious nutter too and say he didn't like the Catholics would be a massive understatement.

The KKK is a hate group promoting a white only nation and Charlie Pride is an artist who helped show how thin the color barrier was in the old south. Then there's John Wayne who was a very big supporter of the Bill of Rights.
