I disagree with you on the joke that was made. I don't see this as a homophobic joke, but one parodying how serious the team was taking itself.

Obviously the point of the joke was to parody the portrayed seriousness of the intro vids. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying that the means by which that joke was made is homophobic; if nobody thought of a specifically homophobic way to make that joke, then the odds of that particular joke being made randomly are so slim as to be functionally nil.

From where I am standing they could have made the joke equally well with a woman. If said woman would be also of heavier build and a head taller the joke would even gain a dimension.


On another note, I could also feel offended because the man was a black dude. THAT'S RACIST!


My point is, we should treat everyone equally.......that means everyone has an equal chance sometimes ending up as the butt end of a joke. I am ok with it if you feel otherwise.....it just "seems" to me that you CHOOSE to be offended by that more than anything.

I can't see how it could be construed as anything but. The whole point was, "This is funny because it's two men expressing romantic affection for each other." In other words, homosexuality is something at which to be laughted. That seems to be pretty explicitly homophobic. If the video instead showed one of the African-American players being handed a plate full of fried chicken or a watermelon with the intention of being the punch-line of a joke, nobody would fail to see the racism in that. This is no different.

I don't see that that follows. This kind of humour is about the violation of your expectation. You expect each player will continue to come on one at a time, as the others have before. The humour comes not because it's two guys being romantic as such, but rather because it's two people being romantic in a place it wasn't expected.

Imagine if they had gone down the list with each player alone, and then one guy came in with a couple of women in bikinis clinging to him. It would be essentially the same joke, but nobody would call it heterophobic. It's just funny because it's unexpected.
