More or less if Superman was a killer.

Never cared for Superman, mostly for that reason... too much a goodie goodie. Superman with Wolverine's personality... now THAT would be worth seeing.

It's a little of both for me. I like he doesn't kill most of the time... but sometimes he needs to turn Luthor to ash.

Prob is, if Supes was a killer, every Superman comic would be one page and every Superman movie would be ten minutes long.

Which is kind of what they did with Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen. He didn't "fight crime" so much as wander round causing criminals to explode at will. Whereupon they were replaced with other criminals which he also exploded, ad nauseum, until he become bored with how pointless it was and went to do something more interesting instead.

I got more of the idea that he stopped because human mores of good and evil were beneath - or least to the side - of him. In any event, it's a good contrast for study - on one hand, the superhero who refuses to do ultimate violence because of how far along the moral spectrum he is; OTOH, the superpowered man who doesn't commit the ultimate violence merely because deciding on its use bores him or can't breach his affectation.
