Well, you heard it wrong!

Post by Mikey »

So, here's a chance for everyone (who's willing to fess up) to let us know those song lyrics that you were so sure you knew, but ended up being ridiculously wrong. I'll start with my own favorite mix-up - I'll give it as "misheard lyric (correct lyric,)" song title.

From Peter Gabriel: "she's so funky, yeah (jeux sans frontieres,)" from "Games Without Frontiers."

And a friend of mine from high school came up with these two Pink Floyd gems:
"my hands felt just like Subarus (my hands felt just like two balloons,)" from "Comfortably Numb."
"no Dukes of Hazzard in the classroom (no dark sarcasm in the classroom,)" from "The Wall Part II."
I can't stand nothing dull
I got the high gloss luster
I'll massacre your ass as fast

Greased Lightning from Grease:

I THOUGHT it was a G rated song, but when I actually LOOKED at the lyrics :happydevil:
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Before I ever heard the title of the song, I misheard the line "There's a bad moon on the rise" as "There's a baboon on the right."

We dutchmen have an actual name for this phenomenon, spawned by a misheard lyric. It's called a 'mama appelsap' if you think you hear something of Dutch seeping through while listening to a song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLXe-FDf ... =1&index=5 - a random playlist with it.

The term 'mama appelsap' is from a certain song of Michael Jackson, I believe.Whereas the singers actually sing 'mamase mamasa a mamucusa'.
And so it goes on, it spawned a grand phenomenon on Dutch shows and since then, it lives on at youtube.

Well, to be fair, the version from the movie was G rated. It's the original Broadway version that includes things "getting lots of t*t" and "she's a real p*ssy wagon."

I've heard the term "mondegreen" used in English for the phenomenon, from the misheard English folk lyric "They slew the Earl of Moray/and Lady Mondegreen" - the actual lyric is ".../and laid him on the green."

Much like the famous Jimi Hendrix lyric, "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy."

Timewarp

"Bring your knees in tight"

"Bend your knees in time"

I still can't remember which is right and which isn't.

There are many that were rather funny, right now I can't remember any but these two from Goodnight Saigon, parentheses is my version.

We left as inmates From an asylum ( Ellis Island)
They sent us playboy They gave us bob hope(false hope)
“You cannot play God then wash your hands of the things that you've created. Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide from the things that you've done anymore.”

And then Buffy staked Edward. The End.

"We met as soul mates on Parris Island,
We left as inmates from an asylum" -- 2 different lines.
"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."
