Disney's forthcoming streaming service won't launch until late 2019, but details surrounding one of its most highly anticipated TV series have emerged.

Jon Favreau, who is set to write and executive produce an original, live-action scripted Star Wars TV series, on Wednesday revealed that his new show will be called The Mandalorian.

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," Favreau shared in a post on his Instagram account.

You can say anything about the writing of the last Lucasfilm creations (I consider they failed worst than Discovery on Episode when Stories are of variable but overall better quality) but in any case, they put a lot of caution on the visual of the show.... In fact maybe too much as there is less difference between Episodes 6 and 7 (30 years in universe and out universe) than between TOS Season 1 and Star Trek VI (for similar laps of time)

Carl Weathers joins 'The Mandalorian'
Lucasfilm isn’t wasting any time on casting for ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian‘ and have just added Carl Weathers (‘Colony,’ ‘Arrested Development’) in a mystery role. Jon Favreau hasn’t been playing his cards as close to the chest as some of the major motion picture directors have been doing, but there still isn’t much in the way of actual information for the series which is slated to debut on Disney+.

It isn’t clear if Weathers will have a smaller part or an ongoing major role in the series.

We know that there will be some great directors attached to the show such as Dave Filoni (‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’, ‘Star Wars Rebels’) who is directing the pilot (as reported earlier), Deborah Chow (‘Jessica Jones’), Rick Famuyiwa (‘Dope’), Bryce Dallas Howard (‘Solemates’), and Taika Waititi (‘Thor: Ragnarok’). As a bonus, there is a rumor that both Howard and Waititi will be starring in the series as well!

Gina Carano Joins Cast of ‘Star Wars’ TV Show

Gina Carano has joined the cast of “The Mandalorian,” Disney’s upcoming live-action Star Wars TV show from Jon Favreau, individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap.
Carano’s role in the series remains under wraps.

The series, which is set in the time period between “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens,” follows a Boba Fett-like character, described as “a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic…” In “Star Wars” lore, Mandalorians made the iconic armor that bounty hunter Boba Fett, and his “father” Jango Fett (he was technically an unaltered clone of Jango) wore in the films.

'Star Wars': Nick Nolte Joins Pedro Pascal in 'The Mandalorian'
Veteran actor Nick Nolte has joined the cast of The Mandalorian, the live-action Star Wars series that will launch on Disney’s streaming Service, Disney+.

The known cast includes Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano. The series, which is already in production, is heavy on visual effects, costumes and makeup, which will allow actors to come and go as well as, in some cases, be cast later in the production process than usual.

Character details are stuffed deep in the Sarlacc pit, but the company’s synopsis is thus: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."
