I posted an image of it in the rumors thread but, I was so sure that it was a fake leak. I assured Striker it was. Mikey tried to tell me it's so dumb it's real. And so it is...and for what? It's one thing to put cross-guards on a lightsaber. It's another to make those cross-guards lightsabers themselves. It looks so fucking dangerous to the wielder.

A regular cross-guard would be fine. It wouldn't be to my taste, but then I don't like Maul's double-ended one either and that seems like a minority opinion. But having them made out of blades, surely the benefit you'd get from a cross-guard is entirely negated by the whole cutting your own hands off part.

Combined with the fact that the blade itself looks crap it just looks like somebodies shitty fan-edit they've done for their OP self-insert masturbation fantasy character.

And I really hope that's not Luke

The part of the teaser I loved was the X-Wings skirting across the the water. Loved that.

LOVED the panoramic angle of the Falcon in flight. Enjoyed the close-in shots of the stormies disembarking as if they were an actual military unit. light-cross-guards on the lightsaber... well...

I could probably take it, even rationalize it, if the crossguard blades were at 45-degree angles from the main blade - as in a parrying dagger or triple-blade katar - or set off from the main blade and parallel to it - as in a jutte or sai. Any of those could make sense, as a lightsaber was designed in part to combat other lightsabers and those types of accessories are designed to parry and baffle other bladed weapons. The simple spatha-type guard that was shown, however, probably wouldn't be dangerous to the user, but then again wouldn't be helpful, either. Waste of crystals, IMHO.

Agreed.

What I liked about the trailer:

- The stormtroopers! Now I have no idea if they are again just cannon-fodder but I like the slightly updated design of their armor and I got a sense of menace from them neither the original Stormtroopers nor the clone troopers could convey.
- The new xwings. Again slightly updated design but still looking cool, also them skirting over the water looked nice.

What I didn't like:

The moronic lightsaber. My first thoughts about that mirrors exactly what was said here, it's just impractical. Also...why does every villain has to be an awkwardly moving hunchback with a hood? Vader was mostly robot and moved normal and stood straight and was more manacing than THAT goblin.

The Millenium Falcon. I know I might be in the definite minority here but to me....it looked fake. No, I cannot explain why the combination of a plywood-set and miniture model from the 70ties still looks more real to me than 2014 CGI. It just does, I am sorry. It looks to slick, to clean to fresh out of the computer. No biggie, until 2015 I am sure they will enhance all CGI quite a bit.

It's just with such a huge budget I wonder why they don't use a few real sets and models.....just for a change...just to get a bit more authentic feeling....just to avoid being so soulless like the prequels. Now we hardly have seen anything so it might be premature to rant about it. We'll see.

I thought the Millennium Falcon looked somehow...too thin, The lightsaber is obviously stupid. I don't know but the speeder looked a bit odd as well, certainly not in keeping with what we've come to expect.

Those X-Wings though.
