However I don't really feel like that's such a bad thing. At it's best the EU showed that Star Wars can do lots of different things. It can be used as a rich setting. A few movies that focus in on certain characters or events that don't have reprecussions for the entire galaxy would honestly be welcomed by me.

That's what I meant - we saw with the PT what can happen when you try to cling to a paradigm past its prime. A shift away from epic space opera might be exactly what the franchise needs.

The statement "won't have nothing" is a double negative - it's a statement that he will have something to do with the new films. Which is a good thing, given that Lucas is very good at the high-level conceptual stuff, even if he can't write decent dialogue and is a bit hit-and-miss as a director.
