Wow, 7 of my favorite movies were fight staged by this man: The LOTR trilogy, Star Wars trilogy, and The Princess Bride. He surely will be missed.

My old coach fenced against him. Supposedly, he was as classy as he was talented.

*Whistles slowly* Impressive body of work, there.

Not to mention Olympic athlete and two-time sabre world champion.

Yep - we considered it a point of honor if we managed to avoid getting beaten 5-nil against Coach Yves, and he recounted how far and above HIS level Anderson was.

And yet I never knew he was Vader, Dammit Lucas!

Yeah, Lucas was pretty good for denying credit to people. Or lines, a la Ray Park.

A la Vader for that matter. I think Prowse is still in something of a huff over that. As well as not being let in on the secret while shooting ESB.

I had thought Prowse was always aware that he wouldn't be speaking Vader's part. The bit about ESB, certainly, and being cut out of the SW community as well.

Apparently not, although whether Lucas always intended to dub over his lines (his version) or whether he decided while filming that a thick west country accent didn't quite befit the role (everybody else's version) is disputed.

In recent years, though, David Prowse has claimed that he always endorsed Jones' speaking part. That, of course, might be a bit of spin and revision on his part.

What was "always the case" with regards to Star Wars has a history of being somewhat fluid. Lucas' various stories of how many films he was/is/will be planning to make being the most notorious example.
