I haven't played the game in years. I don't remember, what was wrong with the cannons?

The shotgun cannon, for one problem that had a range of near zero. Or the Cap-Ship turbolasers that did the same damage on full charge as a shot from a fighter's cannons.

One the plus side the boarding actions were a lot of fun online.
