The DS1 had two sets of TLs. One set of larger twin turrets and then the smaller single mounts that if level wouldn't be much over two meters tall. At several KMs distance, those would be the invisible weapons you speak of. Also remember that the ISD is noted to carry only TLs and Ion cannons unmodified.

Evidence that those were TLs?

I've yet to see a reliable description of an ISD's armament - everything says they had sixty turbolasers, identical to the tower model on the first Death Star. Both these statements are obviously bullshit.

1, the gunnery officer informing Vader that their TLs couldn't hit the fighters.

2, the canon statement is that there are 60 TLs but the model clearly shows eight large turrents and I haven't seen anything that says they are identical TLs.

He obviously hadn't heard about Piggy. :P

That's my point - the EU states that an ISD1's armament consists of 60 identical turbolasers and 60 identical ion cannon. The fact that you can see that it's got at least four different types of weapon (heavy twin turrets, lateral quads, centereline triples and PD) was evidently lost on those who started the brain bug.

I dont know what you mean by piggy but I just had an Animal Farm flash of a pig in an Officer's uniform.

As to the weapons... Let's not get started on the failings of canon. I'd like to finish this thread before my great grand children die of old age.

What this does give us is a bit of an insight as to the need of the Lancer. In some sources, warheads can bypass shields, this means that even if those warheads can't destroy the ISD they can cause battle swinging damage. Having a ship tha soaks up that damage is rather useful.

Jek Porkins, aka Piggy - he was part of Red Squadron at Yavin, and was shot down by one of the turrets.

I assume those sources weren't listening to Dodonna's briefing, and assumed the DS exhaust port's lack of particle shielding applied to all shields. In any event, RotJ and The Bacta War make clear that Star Destroyers have particle shields.

An entire Deathstar worth of RLs and they took out one fighter.

I assume as little as possible with SW because what little sanity I have left has to last me the rest of my life.

You're either lying or you obviously either don't intend to live very long - you're a member of a forum dedicated to debating Star Trek. :P

It's over-specialized and not even very good at its job. It was designed and built after Yavin IV when the Admiralty was hyped up by the thought of starfighters slipping in and playing merry havoc with cap ships.

Considering that the larger Imp cap ships focus almost singlely on anti-cap. It's not a bad idea to have a shiP built for AA.

Anyone whos had to fly passed a modified CR90-AFE or try to get a squadron passed a Tartan knows that lives get really short when your enemy has a ship covered with missiles and long range twin laser cannon.

Meh. Sanity is overrated. Just be like the rest of us and give it up.

Unfortunately, that only works with a ship who can't be just outrun by the fighters she's supposed to combat, and isn't target practice for cap ships.

Yeah, agreed. A good idea to have a ship for anti-starfighter. But the Lancer's not that.

It doesn't even make sense for the Imps to worry about starfighters, then to field an anti-fighter frigate without shields. Not to mention a crew of over 800...

On the speed issue, she doesn't have to be faster then the fighters. She just has to be a little faster then anything she is meant to escort.

Again we can look to th CR-90-AFE or Tartan as good examples. Neither are as fast as even a Imp Torpedo Boat, let alone a fighter. BUT damn can they put out some fire power and they don't die easily.
