I'm a bit confused about the different types.
What is the most seen type?
What is the most powerful type?
What is the Coolest type? :phaser:

The most common, from the films anyway, would have been the Imperial I/Imperial II class star destroyers (often shortened to ISD). These are the ones featured in the original trilogy.

Most powerful...I'm no export but I'd think a Pellaeon?

Coolest? hard, as its subject to personal opinion, but I'd undoubtedly go with the Venator.

Thank You. I've been told there are about a dozen different types + Super Star Destroyers but I thought there was 2, Normal and Super

Star Destroyer & Super-Star Destroyer. When you go further down the page you'll see that there are links to classes of each type.

The term "Star Destroyer" is difficult to pin down because, from what I can gather, the difference between star destroyers can be immense. Venator class, the type used by the Republic in SWIII, is a good 500 meters shorter than an Imperial class, the type used by the empire in the films. And yet, they weren't that dissimilar in firepower.

I'm no expert. Look at Captain Seafort for that, I only know what I've trawled through the wookipedia on.

The term "Star Destroyer" refers to the the ship's type, not to individual classes. The role of the Imperator/Imperial-class Star Destroyers seen in the OT - chasing down pirates, smugglers and blockade runners, acting as escorts to larger ships in fleet actions, are much the same as modern destroyers, with some overlap to late-19th to mid-20th century cruisers. Therefore, the term is likely a carryover from naval terminology.

The term "Super" Star Destroyer is just IU slang, used to refer to any class of ship larger than the common ISD, be that ship a 3000m long light cruiser, like the Allegiance from the Dark Empire comics, all the way up to the 19000m long Executor-class Star Dreadnoughts seen in the films.

If you want to have a look into the full range of Imperial ships seen or mentioned, either in the films or the EU, this would be the best place to start.

Thanks. I haven't watched or read any Star Wars for years and was recently told there were a lot of different types of SD.

Aye, there's a fair few, even if some of them (almost exclusively the bigger ones) only turn up in the background of DE.

As a quick run down we have:

Victory-class: Clone Wars era line destroyer, 900 metres long, weighted towards ship-to-ship combat but with decent fighter a troop contingents.

Venator-class: Clone wars era line destroyer, 1137 metres long but about the same volume as the Vic, and the same power output. Heavily weighted towards the starfighter carrier role.

Imperator/Imperial-class: The standard Imperial line destroyer, 1600 metre long counterinsurgency platform, with an excellent balance of firepower, fighters and group troops. The definitive symbol of the Galactic Empire.

Tector-class: Imperial fleet destroyer, 1600 metres long, based on the Imperator hull, but much more heavily armoured, and orientated towards ship-to-ship combat.

Allegiance-type: About 3000 metres long, fits into the gap between heavy destroyers and proper Star Cruisers. Like the Tector it's orientated towards ship-to-ship combat.

That's just a quick run down of the smaller ships. As you can see, they run from the small (by Imperial standards) Victory up to the light cruiser/flotilla leader Allegiance, and from designs optimised for ship-to-ship combat, to almost pure starfighter-carriers.

We should design a refit of the Executor with Treknology

That would count as a versus, and is therefore banned.

May I ask how is it a versus? It is more of a cross like the Fed Battlestar here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5224

The Fed Battlestar was an attempt to design a Federation ship with the same mission profile as a Battlestar (i.e. a fighter carrier with attached infantry contingent). Refitting a Ex invites direct comparison of the relative strengths of SW and ST weapons, shields and propulsion technology, in order to determine whether it would be better off with Imperial or Federation technology, and is thus a versus.
