Trivial Wondering

Post by Sonic Glitch »

One weekend at college a buddy and I were watching the Original Trilogy (in marathon format). In both ANH and RotJ we watched the Death Stars superlaser being used. Watching the firing sequence we began to wonder: just who are those two guys at the panel within the laser tunnel? What do they do? Does shading their eyes really help that much? And: If there in the same tube as a laser capable of destroying entire planets shouldn't they be fried either by the massive energy of the laser or radiation caused by it's exotic nature or in some way otherwise impaired? Or at least wearing protective suits?

I honestly think that's where they throw the guys that piss the emperor off. He just say go down there and hit some buttons that do nothing, and they just get fried, that was my working theory at least.

Those massive bike helmets mitigate the radiation. I guess.

Or maybe, they "refudiate" the radiation!

I believe they were working on the sewage system, the monitors of which just happened to be in the tunnel through which the superlaser fired.

The helmets, of course, had a weird futuristic shape which de-quantum-ized the radiation.

And more to the point, why don't they have a rail? That platform isn't big, and there's no rail to stop them falling! They should ask for one.

(Cookie awaits the first to name the reference...)
