Wiki also claims that 100 million men were mobilised for the war, out of a total population of around 2.5 billion. Therefore the combattants comprised approximately 4% of the global population. The galactic population is anyone's guess, but we know that the Empire had a million member worlds, and 50 million lesser entities. Assuming an average population of 10 billion, this would give us a total population of 500 quadrillion beings, and a total mobilised force (both sides combined) of 20 quadrillion.

Ok for those of us not used to huge numbers they go...

Million
Billion
Trillion
...?

Million - 10^6 (1,000,000)
Billion - 10^9 (1,000,000,000)
Trillion - 10^12 (1,000,000,000,000)
Quadrillion - 10^15 (1,000,000,000,000,000)
Quintillion - 10^18 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000)

You know it would have made more sense for who ever named them all to follow standard naming practice.

Trillion
Quadrillion
Pentillion
Hexillion
Heptillion

Have Trillion take the place of Billion and move on from there. Easy to work out the number of zeros. Octillion would be 8 lots of 3 zeros - 24. Although Million doesnt really fit in well, would have to be something like Duillon.

Karen Traviss is still a dingbat though. She pulled 3 million out of thin air.

At least the book'll be cheap. Knowing her preference for numbers, it'll probably be about four pages.

The galaxy was populated by approximately 100 quadrillion different life forms

So 4 quadrillion soldiers.

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

More than that, come to think of it - according to Wookieepedia, the Droid Army outnumbered the Republic 100 to 1 and, as has already been mentioned, numbered in the quintillions. Therefore the GAR should be tens of quadrillions strong.

This letter came in yesterday
Stop second guessing me! You people at the DITL don't know anything! If you don't stop interfering in my writing, my next letter will be to your site administrator to censure you! Have any of you ever seen a million of anything, much less three million?
It was unsigned.

Is that for real?!

How did we interfere? And does she really think Graham would interfere with our self-expression?
