It makes sense, from a business point of view. Like it or not the prequels, whilst being critically panned, were financially big successes. Especially with kids. So view the next films not so much as sequels to the original trilogy as sequels to the prequels. And one of the things the prequels basically did was make the whole Star Wars trilogy be Annakin's story rather than Luke's. How do you go on to make further films without the star character? It's like making more James Bond films, only without James Bond in them. Or another Jaws movie only without a shark in it. Much safer to just put the star in there, regardless of plot sense.
