Exactly as I see it.

That could by entertaining and fun to watch........yet no matter how many twists they do you basically already know how it will end.

I think the time to be brave and try something new is now. Star Trek2 will likely be a success and everyone who liked the first one will watch the second. There is no real need to "play it safe" and rehash old storylines because it minimizes risk on the contrary, this could be exactly what puts people of if there ever is going to be anther movie.

That's a thought that hadn't occurred to me, actually. When I hear Khan is going to be in the film I think of it being a remake/reinterpretation of Trek II... but really, they may just as easily be looking to Space Seed for their inspiration. All they would really be tied to is Khan being found in the Botany Bay - after that they could take it in any direction they liked. Could be interesting...

Would fit the timeline a little better. Although theres no reason they'd have to find the Botany Bay at the same time as the original Enterprise did.

No doubt. Kirk made captain earlier than the original timeline, right?

Khan should still be Khan (due to being in stasis well before the change to the original timeline), but alternate Kirk's response to the threat he poses will likely be considerably different. Actually, I can see a lot of story possibilities with that, and it could be incredible if done properly.

The chnaces of finding it again are very slim.

The only thing in its favor is that the new time line will likely have more patrols and a militaristic feel which might lead to it being discovered, alternatively with out Vulcans power Starfleets fleet might me diminished...

All I have to say for my part is my initial reaction to STXI was not positive; How could anyone pull off individually iconic roles (especially Spock and McCoy). However, they did it. Did it superbly. Whose to say they do not find an actor who can pull of such a close facsimile of Montalban? It is utterly cynical to believe it completely impossible; Although I do admit it unlikely.

Wouldn't they have to reboot Khan from scratch? After all, the whole Universe was just sent back to the beginning and Kirk is just out of the Academy. So this can't be a direct remake of TWoK since the history doesn't yet exist in the new universe.

Good point. TWOK was about 15 years later then the next film will be set. Would have to be a more or less new story.

Off topic maybe. but how much would Spocks presence change the future? He's already given Scotty the know how to beam someone across Interstellar Space. Is he going to keep all his other (extensive) knowledge to himself?

The future's already screwed six ways from Sunday from Spock's perspective, so there would be no reason to keep quiet.
