Aren't there cases in Trek where time traveling doesn't create alternate universes but completes a time loop? I remember one of the few episodes of DS9 I saw the Temporal guys talk about how captains always think they're filling a predestined time loop out.

I'm the kind of guy who likes the simplest explanation and usually hates time traveling in the first place. Isn't it possible that the Borg in ENT are a time loop? For that matter couldn't the Temporal Cold War?

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

I tend to feel that Nero going back in time created a whole ripple effect both ways on the timeline. (I apologize if this has already been said, I didn't see it anywhere)

Think about this: Nero goes back. we've already seen slight differences 25 years after his arrival, so by the time the E-E came around (if it still did at the same time) I would imagine it would be much more different.
then the borg might never go back, and who knows what little itsy bitsy things will affect the timeline by the time of ENT. if the borg didn't go back it would at least change the "borg in the arctic" episode.
that accounts for most if not all differences in Abramsverse from Geneverse 'before' Nero arrives.

What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

some even escape for a time and then fall back in!

As for the timeline, IntrepidPrincess made a good point, and one that will bake your brain trying to wrap around it. Nero comes through, attacks the Kelvin this starts SF down the path of arming up more effectivly, By the time we get to the E-E SF is more powerfull and might be able to stop the borg well before they reach Earth preventing the sphere from going back in time. However I do hope that is not the case would rather have the new timeline be a split from the prime one at the attack on the kelvin rather than from First contact.

Only season four. Since the timeline reset itself in season three.

Look.......I'm clinging to that as an excuse for seasons one and two. Don't take that away from me
