Saudi Arabia's king Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz passes

Post by Reliant121 »

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died, royal officials have announced, weeks after he was admitted to hospital.

Abdullah, who had ruled since 2005 and was said to be aged about 90, had been suffering from a lung infection.
His 79-year-old half-brother, Salman, has been confirmed as the new king.
Within hours of his accession to the throne of the oil-rich kingdom, King Salman vowed to maintain the same policies as his predecessors.
"We will continue adhering to the correct policies which Saudi Arabia has followed since its establishment," he said in a speech broadcast on state television.
Abdullah had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years, and King Salman had recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities.
Proor to announcing Abdullah's death, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the passing of a senior royal.
A statement said Abdullah had died at 01:00 (22:00 GMT Thursday).
I won't bore with the details. While Saudi Arabia is hardly famous for it's reformist nature King Abdullah gently pushed the country forward into the 21st century. I wonder what his Successor will achieve...

The Queen is now the worldst oldest monach.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I understand that Abdullah is going to have what amounts almost to a pauper's burial. Seems like a weird time to be humble.

Well... He probably doesn't care since he is dead.

From what I can gather it's a religious/cultural custom thing. Unmarked grave in a public cemetery.

Yeah. It's basically to show that all are the same in the eyes of Allah.

Except, you know, women or adherents of other faiths.
