100 years ago today Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and fucked up the rest of the 20th century.

What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

How Each Of The Great Powers Helped Start the First World War. It's i09.
It's the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Serbian terrorist — an event that escalated into unprecedented global conflict known today as World War I. Most historians say Germany led the charge into war, but seven other powers deserve a share in the blame.

So says someone living one of the most comfortable lives in human history.

You can not judge the oppressed until you have been oppressed yourself.

Look at this scenario, yes the results of the assassination were absolutely fucking horrendous on a scale never seen before. But it was carried out by a group of locals, trying to expel a forign power from their soverign territory, Austia hingry were an unwanted occupying force. Add to that, that although Franz was in favour of treating the Serbs well, he choose to host war games on the anniversary of a Serbian military memorial day.

So no, I will not judge the Black Hand.

I'm with Teaos on this; people considered Geronimo and Crazy Horse to be terrorists in their time, when they were fighting for the survival of their people. SOME people still consider George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to be terrorists.

I gotta agree with teaos and Tsuki as well. Well, I still find the actual reenactment a bit... offputting, but I won't judge their views on him.

I'll judge him - a murdering thug who's indirectly responsible for well over 100 million deaths, all because the Serbs were trying to grab Bosnia? Yep - terrorist.

And Tsu, if that was aimed at me, I don't consider Washington and Jefferson terrorists - merely traitors and tax dodgers. :P

If your selfcentredness and ignorance of world history helps... nah fuck that, ignorance helps not one.

You can't lay WWI at the Black Hands feet, almost every agrees it was going to happen, evidence by the fact that an assassination need not lead to war:-

Austia Hungry WANTED war, it made a list of totally over blown and rediclous demands of the Serbs, insuring war, even though they damned well knew the Russians had a treaty with Russia for self defence.

Russia wanted war because, evidence by the over 1 million troops waiting on its western boarders, it knew it was falling behind the arms race and though this impending war was better sooner than latter.

As did the Germans who feared the massive increase in Russian might paid for by French loans.

The French wanted the war now due to Germanies huge birthrate and ever increasing industrial power.

Only Britain really did not push for the war.

The Black hand shot the future leader of a unwanted forign power who claimed right to rule over them because... fuck the serbs.

As Tsu pointed out, you live in a country founded by terrorists if you hold to modern definitions, yet you put them on your money.

You're point is fairly taken, Teaos, but your definitions are inaccurate and inflamatory. The high-ups of the American Revolution were never akin to any modern definition of terrorists save for the fact that they used weapons... in the prosecution of warfare. The Maoris - you know, the recipients of cultural dissolution at the hands of your people - were more terrorists than Washington et. al.
