Re: Scottish Independence
So yeah, my country may cease to exist tomorrow.
It's a shame that it's a close run thing, though. No matter what the result, just about half of Scotland is going to get something it doesn't want.

Yeah, while it's a very different situation, that historically hasn't gone very well.Graham Kennedy wrote:

No it won't - it just stands a 50/50 chance of shrinking a bit.Graham Kennedy wrote:So yeah, my country may cease to exist tomorrow.
Aye. Maybe if the central belt votes decisively for independence and the rest against we could just give that bit independence, build a wall around them, and let them get on with it. I hear the Italians need a bit of economic stimulus, and do a very nice line in such walls - we could kill two birds with one stone. No matter what the result, just about half of Scotland is going to get something it doesn't want.

It's been a while since they built a wall in that area, and after all you still ended up where you are today. I'm led to believe the Chinese do a nice anti-Mongol wall, though.

Well then. Scotland remains in the union, with 55% to 45%

Re: Scottish Independence
I just read the headline. 55.3% against independence is hardly a secure majority. I smell a Quebec of the UK in the offing.Griffin wrote:Well then. Scotland remains in the union, with 55% to 45%

Common sense prevails
"No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand."
