Yeah, I gotta agree on this one. The West's interest in the region isn't protecting Israel, it's protecting the Middle East Arab nations from Israel. Remember, the Arab nations of the Middle East have a long and glorious history of partnering up and massively outnumbering Israel, attacking from decided advantages, and then getting their asses thoroughly handed to them.

The problem the Israelis have always had is that handing the members of the latest Arab alliance their asses usually involved completely exhausting their stockpiles, so they had to go cap in hand to the US for replenishment. If that source of free ammo was removed (highly unlikely, given the strength of the Israeli lobby) the Arab armies would roll over the IDF, which comes back to things ending very badly for all concerned.
