I would gave thought they would be pushing more than Mach 6 by this point.

Yeah, I read about this. A shame, but our current expertise in the hypersonic realm is... well, less than expert.

Well, you can't make an omelette without cracking some eggs. Our expertise in the field will never increase without essays - including failed ones - such as this.

Even aside from the data... the point is that if you never make the attempt for fear of failure, you are guaranteed to never be successful.

Nothing has driven research in that region since America walked away from strategic bombers in the middle of the Cold War. There is no longer a supersonic transport either. What would make you think we would be up to Mach 3 by this point?
