Four hours later Koren and the other senior officers from the battle were in the large assembly hall from earlier. This time they only made up a mere faction of the space.

The Captain stood silently for nearly ten minutes as he stood in front of them reading the report they had hastling assembled. "You misspelled 'the'." he muttered looking up to Koren, "I want it fast but I don't want 't'-'e'-'h'." He said sternly then tossed the datapad behind his back. "Beyond that well done. We now have two ships, the Aetos Tagma; as I'm sure you are all aware. And we now have the captured Frigate I've tentively named the Rear Guard. Because that's exactly what its going to be doing and there's very few Rear Guards in the Imperial Navy."

The captain paced a little bit, "Now," He said loudly cutting off everyone else's in the room's train of thought, "I suspect you're wondering how we're going to crew a ship full of dead rebels? Well we're going to repair it and while we're doing that I have requested some crew to help man it. Below us is a mining base. I want our political arm to descend there with some troops-- Fodakan that's you, and assertain the amount of rebellious activity is down there. If need be the entire colony can be blasted out an airlock but I want the structure itself to remain intact. We can use it in conjuecture with our prefab capabilities to create new equipment for this campaign. Prepare a landing party while my crew repairs the frigate and mops up the bloody stains of the rebels." The Captain said then walked out the room.

Koren turned to Tarrian, "Your injured personel okay?" He asked.

"He'll live. Agent Dannick wasn't too pleased to lose a man, even temporarly." Tarrian replied as he packed up his notes.

Koren nodded, "I can understand that, Agent Tarrian, I'll assign an honor guard personally to your men as you scout out the mining coloney. No air down there so be sure to pack breathalizers."

Tarrian nodded, "Useless if they get outside anyway. Also see to it that TIEs escort above us. I don't want a rogue Y-Wing to think it can bomb us while we're inside."

"Will do." Koren said standing up, "I wonder who's going to be put in charge of the Rear Guard until a new Captain can arrive."

All Jair could think about while on the transport ship was how badly it stank. He wrinkeled his nose in disgust at what he percieved to be the unwashed bodies of the mindless cannon fodder that surrounded him. He should have been berthed in a VIP stateroom, and eating his meals at the Captain's table, aboard a Star Destroyer. Instead he had been assigned to a junior officers stateroom, more so he wouldn't bother the troops than anything else, on board a troop transport. Granted, he was on the way to a very profitable assignment and one that would make him look very good in certain peoples eyes, but nevertheless he grated with the indignity of it all. After a short time, he left the tiny room for the galley, to force himself to eat the slop they had been serving him ever since he had come aboard. Thankfully, today was supposed to be the last day of the trip. He retrieved a tray and was forced to stand in line with the off duty naval personel and the troopers.

"Watch it, Bounty Hunter" a beefy Sergeant josteled his way in front of Jair. "Real soldiers need to eat."

Gritting his teeth in fury, Jair replied "Trooper, perhaps your unaware that a condition of my contract with the Empire grants me an honerary officers rank. Perhaps you'd care to assume a proper place at the end of the line."

With a snide grin, the trooper replied "Bounty Hunters don't HAVE any honor, so your so called rank is meaningless, now stand aside, scum, or this will get really bad for you, really fast."

For Jair, anger was like an intense fire, but when it grew to hatred, it was replaced with an icy calm. "Of course, Sergeant. I wouldn't want any trouble."

After Jair got his tray filled he took a seat at an empty table, and waited for the fool to get half way threw his meal. After the large man took a big bite of his synthisised meat, Jair reached out and touched the Force and let his anger and hatred rise to the surface, then sent his thoughts to the man's throat. Suddenly the big trooper cluthed at his throat, unable to speak, unable to breath. Jair enjoyed the sight of the big mans eyes widening in terror as at first his friends pounded him on the back or tried to pass him water. Then one fellow grabbed him around the midsection from behind and tried to dislodge what they believed to be the food stuck in his throat, while another called for a medic. The Sergeant already red, began to turn blue, and started to lose conciousness, and just before slipping away, looked dazedly into Jair's joyful eyes. It took the fool some time to finish dying, and when he finally did, Jair's food was cold. Suddenly hungry, Jair went back to the food line for a fresh plate as the medical team loaded the fools body onto an anti grav strecther and took the remains to the medical bay.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Later that day

The comlink on Jair's belt chirped. Jair reached for the device and activated it,

"Yes?"

"We've just arrived in system, and have met up with the Imperial Star Destroyer Aetos Tagma. Your ship will be ferried over later. You are insturcted to board a shuttle now, however, and report to the commanding officer" the Bridge officer relayed.

"Very well" Jair replied as he hoisted his two bags.

"Musten't keep my soon to be best freind waiting" he thought..................

Kir sighed and stretched after finishing his shower. Killing a man face-to-face was definitely different from shooting down a ship; not necessarily bad, because a rebel was just a pirate with a misguided cause, just... different.

He was about to dress when he got the message over the ship's net: "You are wanted. Political branch will be landing troops - report in one hour. Tarrian," was all the terse message read. Once more unto the breach, Kir thought, and began to put his flight suit back on when there was a knock on the door. Kir answered to find Squadron Leader Tarl.

"We're mobilizing for a ground assault," Tarl said gruffly, "and one interceptor flight will be in the fighter sortie. Much as I hate to admit it, you seem to know what you're doing in these situations. You want the job?"

"Thank you, sir, but I've been tasked by the political branch."

"So you're in political now, instead of the Starfighter Corps?" Tarl asked derisively.

"No, sir, but I didn't really think it would be smart to decline. Should I tell them that you have made me unavailable?" Kir asked with a subtle hint of threat in his tone.

Tarl stood for a moment, clenching and unclenching his fists. Finally he grated, "Carry on," turned on his heel, and stalked away.

After securing a Gamma-class from the deck officer Kir made his way to Tarrian's office. "Come in, Mr. Elan," came the political officer's sepulchral voice as Kir approached the door. Kir was positive that the use of the term "mister" rather than his rank was a subtle but intentional reminder of the pecking order. "You are to insert a detachment of operatives at the groundside facility, remain for extraction, and assist in any way necessary. Agent Dannick will provide the details." As Kir opened his mouth to ask about complement, defensive intel, and objective, Tarrian held up a forestalling hand. "That is all you need to know for now."

"To perform properly-" Kir began.

Tarrian cut him off abruptly. "That is ALL, lieutenant." The political officer turned his back, very certainly signalling the end of the discussion.

Dannick watched as the shuttle crew loaded his fallen trooper. A medic stood next to him, and slightly behind him. "He'll live Sir, you have my word. His wounds though, he'll never see combat duty again. His leg can be replaced but the damage else where will take years to replace. New organs will have to be grown for transplant. Even then, nothing is as good as what he had."

Dannick wanted to kill the medic... just for being the only man within arms reach. "See to your duties sailor. Be sure that my man lives and I'll promise not to space you." Dannick turn on his and marched off the flight deck. "Aye Sir! He's in.. uh what?! Right SIR! You have my word!" The medic tripped over his words as Dannick moved away. Fearing Dannick may make good on His word, the medic ran aboard the shuttle. Telling them of Dannicks words which gave all aboard the need to leave. The shuttle lifted off into space, eight minutes ahead of time.

'2' ran up along side Dannick. "That PO has culled a navy boy. An ace jockey of some sorts. PO must have a soft spot for recruits." said '2' in a mostly mocking voice. Dannick and '2' laughed together. "Well damn Cyr, they've got to replace thier losses somehow..." "Don't let the squad hear you use my name... they'll throw a fit." "For what? I'll retire one day and you'll get your name back." "Just die, I don't feel like waiting. I've got four kids who can't even speak to me..." The two old friends broke out laughing even harder then before. "In five years, I retire. You can have the squad and your name. It won't bother me the none." Dannick kept walking while '2' paused. "So, SIR, why'd you turn down the 12th...?" Dannick halted in his steps. "Because I never wanted a that kind of a command." "So... SIR, the 12th Army HQ offers you a Division of your own and you say you don't feel like it? Maybe you should have pointed them to me... 20,000 men at your feet couldn't be so bad." "They also wanted me to agree to another ten years. I'm done in half that. Then, I'm going home." The two men faded apart. '2' going towards the squad in the mess, Dannick heading to the PO's office.

The squad was busy causing a mess and picking mostly short lived spats with some of the crew. Still in full battle gear, they had spent what time they had to eat and brag about the fight for the frigate. Taking a Frigate was no small matter, adding to it they felt most of the glory was theirs... ego and pride were in great supply. Joyful knowing that their wounded squad mate would live and anger at the lack of speed in which the Stormtroopers achived their goals. Dannick's troops were cheering themselves into a frenzy.

Meanwhile on the colony, panic was sweeping the cooridors and fairways. Vlanxians, humans, and a whole host of other creatures began to riot. The mobs struck the local stores and hydroponic bays, gathering what food they could and then baracading themselves inside their quarters.

A pro-Imperial group had begun to organize themselves despite death threats from other citizens not wanting the loyalist to give names to the Empire of who supported what. Some small weapon fire had even broken out in the commons for the air tight colony. The magnetically sealed walls played havoc on the blaster bolts sending them flying in random directions.

During the chaos a low flying flight of TIE Interceptors flew over the duraglass dome of the main common building causing vibrations throughout the building. The crowd ducked instinctively and then began to run in random directions as in the distant they saw the dim shapes of the Imperial craft begin to approach.

The blast doors to the hangerbay were cut open and Imperial Storm Troopers began to enter the rogue colony. Koren followed in their wake as no blaster fire had reached for them yet. Behind Koren the political officers entered. "By Imperial Penal Code Section 12, Subsection 8, Part E-5, this colony is now under martial law." The General said as he spoke into a loud speaker. Secretly he hoped he had memorized the right law section. The Penal code being so massive it was hard to keep straight.

Some of the citizens starred unmoving and not knowing what the correct course of action would be. Others continued to run away and others prostrated themselves on the ground to show they were harmless. Turning to his political officers, Koren smiled, "All yours. Take a minimum of two Storm Troopers per man wherever you go for security. Rest of the soldiers, follow me. Captain wants us at the communications hub yesterday."

Kir banked the lumbering assault shuttle hard, trying to keep the heavy front shields toward the incoming AA fire. The shuttle was about as aerodynamic as a brick and was buffeted by turbulence in the atmosphere. The occasional impact on the shields was a further distraction. "Quad-laser batteries at 11 and 1," Kir called out.

"Got 'em," replied AT-25-10 from the gunner's position. Laser fire from both front turrets raked the ground ahead, tearing through the AA guns and sending rebel bodies flying.

"The general is on the ground," said AT-25-09, serving as co-pilot and engineer. Kir saw the cluster of shuttles landed some way off from the main habitat and the knot of stormtroopers charging forward. He'd have to land the political branch troops behind them, unless...

He slid the shuttle to starboard, until it was travelling parallel to its original course but 50 meters to the side. As the wall of the habitat loomed closer, he said, "Concussion missile."

"You're nuts," said 25-10 simply.

"NOW!" Kir growled. As soon as the missile was away, he braked hard and pivoted the shuttle 90 degrees to avoid the impending blast.

"What the hell are you doing, jockey?!" barked Dannick's voice over the comm.

"Just giving you a clean, forward LZ... unless you'd rather play catch-up."

"Just-" Dannick was cut off as the missile tore through the wall of the habitat and Kir jerked the shuttle around to its previous heading. He slowed as he flew through the breach in the wall and set the shuttle down on a small platform of rubble and bodies.

As he popped the hatches and the troops disembarked, 25-09 yelled, "Bogeys - 2 o'clock high! I'll back us off."

"No," Kir replied, "they're not after us."

"What?"

"These are rebels, not Imperial soldiers or pilots. If they're scrambling while we're already on the ground... contact the Tagma! Let 'em know there are fugitives outbound. Moving to intercept," Kir said. Switching to Dannick's channel, he added, "Back in a minute, sir."

"Signal recieved from the ground team....Incoming hostile vessels," Came the voice of a radio operator.

"Capture or terminate, Captain?" Vaile asked softly, glancing at the planet below. The crew seemed to stop their actions just to listen to the response, held in rapt attention by the seemingly quiet and reserved commanding officer.

"The Latter, lieutenant. Obliterate them," The captain said, turning about on his heels. Vaile smiled softly.

"Gunnery officer, bridge here. Standby to open fire all AA weapons. On my mark. Target distance?" He called out, leaning toward the work pits below.

"5000!" Someone shouted in response. Vaile straightened himself out, and sighed.

"Fire." He responded softly.

And the sky was set alight.

Green turbolaser fire lit up the surface outside of the breathable bubble the habbitatual structure created. The Imperial boarding craft began to turn around after dropping off another load of Storm Troopers to return to the Aetos Tagma. Koren watched in satisfaction as the shuttles left the magnetic field and entered the lethal environment outside.

"Sir," A Storm Trooper said as he walked up behind Koren, "Bravo Company has assembled we are ready to perform door to door sweeps."

Koren nodded, "Good. Inform the political branch and invite them along. I want all residents taken into this central common where we'll process them and see which ones are rebel sympathizers. Keep a look out, BlasTech has shipments that come through this system. A few million weapons falling off the back of a speeder isn't that far fetched."

The Trooper nodded and hurried off to do the General's bidding.

Outside the rebel controlled SAM sites continued to be silenced by the Star Destroyer. Koren wondered why the rebels were even trying. The most they could hope for is to shoot down an Interceptor or two and now that the Star Destroyer was securing a planet reinforcements would be on their way to replenish the Rear Guard. Koren winced as an Interceptor was struck by the return fire from the planet. 71 TIEs left.

The assault shuttle groaned as Kir turned it harder than its designers ever intended. "Give me range on the closest rebel ship - weapons at your option," he called to AT-25-09.

"Closest starfighter in range in-"

"Ignore the fighters for now. Bring down whatever they're escorting."

"No other ships, sir," replied the slightly confused gunner. "They're escorting... nothing."

"A decoy sortie!" Kir slammed a fist onto the console in front of him. "Clever bastards," he continued as he watched the TIE flights chase the rebel fighters into the upper atmosphere. He tore the craft through another 180 degrees and headed back toward the original Imperial beachhead. With the Imperial air cover off on a wild goose chase, a force of rebel infantry was creeping up on the rear of the stormtrooper formation. A few rebel squads were setting up E-web blasters. "09 - take out the support weapons; 10 - let Fodakan know he's got rebels crawling up his ass."

Laser fire streaked from the shuttle, destroying the heavy blasters and ripping through the rebel heavy weapons squads. "Clear some room and set us down in an accessible spot. We may have wounded to ferry," Kir told the crew. "Let the ground units know that we're available for medevac. I'm going to cover any incoming troops." He fixed his flight helmet and loosened his pistol in its holster.

As soon as the shuttle set down, Kir jumped down the ramp. When he was out of earshot of the cockpit he began speaking into his commlink. "AT-25-03 to Officer Tarrian: outbound bogeys are decoys - whatever you're looking for, it's still down here."

Jair was seething with the disrespect. He'd hurried to present himself to his new commander, and was kept waiting for 6 hours. Then, some officer or other had come in and presented immediate orders for him. He was to join an elite Stormtrooper platoon, then shuttle with them to the surface, and assist with quelling the resistance of some rebel scum.

"Two minutes till landing" the officer in charge announced to his troops.

Jair double checked his gear. He had donned a light, blaster resistant breastplate, but distained any heavier armor. The breastplate would impede his mobility enough. He again checked the charge on each of the DL-44s at his hips, and discretely made sure his various hold out blasters and small, poisoned blades were firmly tucked away and out of sight. Finally, he patted his two lightsabers, which were securely strapped to either thigh, in quick draw sleeves.

The trooper sitting next to him looked over and asked him, "Where did you get those? A Jedi surplus store?" His squad mates began laughing at his jest, and even Jair allowed a small grin on his face, already planning this jester's final painful moments.

With a sharp bump, the shuttle landed, and the hatch popped. The officer began yelling "Move, move, move" to which the troopers all responded to rapidly. Jair was the last man off the ship.

The officer looked at Jair, "We have orders to break into two man teams and flush these buildings, Bounty Hunter. To bad for you, you're the odd man out. Remember, watch your back."

With a disdainful sneer, Jair pulled his blasters and said, "As if I'd trust any of YOU with MY life."

Over the course of the next two days the newly Minted Rear Guard and the Aetos Tagma continued with operations on the mining colony and gathering reinforcements. Koren and the crew from Imperial Intelligence supervised mass executions via exposure to vacuume until the more numerous ISB arrived to take over operations of interrogation and executions. By the end of the week roughly 4/5ths of the population had been detained or executed.

The Captain of the Aetos stood before an assembly of the top officers once again. "Alright lads I have recieved news from the Vice Sector Moff himself that he is pleased.Well I'm not pleased too damn slow and too many losses. You might say but sir we lost less than one percent, well that was the easy part."

He brought up a hologram of the system, "We are bipassing the mining operations mid-system. Our fighter squadrons will be on guard incase they try anything but our scouts report they have mostly evacuated to the main planet already. And that's where we'll be heading. We'll land outside the capital in a field called Priam Flats. Priam Flats is a salt flat which should provide our armored vehicles with the perfect terrain. So get it done. You've seen the rebel influence on their mining colony we captured. Its safe to say it carries over to their main planet. There are no noncombatants. If they do not surrender I am pulling General Fodakan out and we are performing a Delta Base Zero. Get to your crews and coordinate the attack strategy. We leave in two days."

Jair strode down the corridors of the mighty Star Destroyer with a bit more swagger in his step than usual. The combat action had been a bit more intense than anyone in the Stormtrooper unit he was assigned to had ever expected. During the room to room sweep, nearly half of his accompanying team had been either killed or wounded by booby traps or other similarly nasty surprises. Both the team leader and his sergeant had been killed during the door to door sweeps, and a damned fool of a corporal led them all into an ambush.

The troopers had been shocked at Jair, especially after he had closed to hand to hand and dropped his twin blasters and drawn his lightsabers. What scared most of the seasoned soldiers more than anything else was the joy Jair took in the kill, smiling even as he struck down helpless women and children. Granted, they were to be executed anyway, but something about the way the bounty hunter RELISHED the slaughter was unnerving. Now, as he strode to the communications room, the troopers gave him a wide berth, as it seems that word had spread.

Entering the communications room, the officer on duty said, "We have a priority message for you, Bounty Hunter. It's marked for your eyes only, with a high level authorization." Pointing towards a small room off to the side the officer said, "You can take it in there."

Sneering at the officer who was striving to be polite, he quickly entered the small room and locked the door. He then keyed in his personal code. As a holographic figure appeared on the platform, Jair did something anyone ever saw him do. He fell to his knee in a gesture of not only respect, but of true terror and submission and said, "What is thy bidding, my master?"

Koren smiled at Aneria as they stood together at the firing range. "Turbolasers are so much easier." She mused as she held the carbine up looking through its rear assist at the target.

Koren chuckled setting his left hand on the small of her back his face close to hers, "You should learn to shoot without a computer." He smirked then turned to look down the barrel of the e-11.

Music from the Imperial Orcastra played in the background as Aneira squeezed the trigger sending a red bolt down range barely missing the target to sizzle against the durasteel wall. She let out a little curse, "I can't seem to hit anything."

"Relax your shoulders," He smiles as she lifts her weapon again. "Take aim, all the time in the world." He whispers removing his hand from her back. Her shoulders slowly rose and fell with the natural intake of breath. Breathing out she squeezed off another shot. The blaster bolt flung forwards and struck the captured rebel in the forehead. The duros' skull exploded brain material outwards as his fellow prisoners began crying.

"There you go." Koren said smiling at her.

A few hours after their date Koren arrived in the briefing room. He recognized the Imperial Bounty Hunter vaguely. It had been awhile since he had access to the Ubiquitorate Computer systems but he thought the bounty hunter's name was Jaris. Inquisitor Jerec sent one of his best. Koren nodded approvingly, he wished his old friend in the Ubiquitorate, Zancon Mon'Elvit was here. Zancon rarely killed good troopers and Koren had heard this Jaris fellow had not been so sparing ruining Koren's record so far in losses. Koren had bet a fellow officer on Coruscant that he could do this operations under 20% KIA or WIA and he saw to win that luxuary air speeder.

Kneeling the before the holoscreen, Koren expected Zancon or even Jerec to appear but the line, "What is your bidding my master?" could only mean one thing. Koren quickly stepped out of visual range of the Emperor as the image of the ruler of a untold trillions appeared.

"For too long the Jedi who struck out at me at Imperial Center and caused the carnage of the clone wars have remained free of justice. Kill the one known as Lok Ran. This is important, if allowed to live he could become a figure head for the rebellion. If his apprientice could be turned he would prove a valuable ally. Bring him alive to be trained under the Dark Side. Only then will he be allowed freedom that you have enjoyed Dax. All are expendable. The apprientice Jerald Yuv must be brought alive. Do not fail me." The Emperor said then the communication fell silent.

Koren looked to the Captain of the vessel across the room who had a scowl on his face. "Tarrian..." The Captain said shortly looking towards the political officer. "See that... our guest," He said nodding to Jaris, "Is treated well. He's yours so I'll leave him to your care."

Koren muttered to Ardus who was standing next to him, "Well there goes the air speeder."

"Air speeder?" Ardus asked looking inquizitively at Koren.

"Never mind 'boss'. I need to go over with my subcommanders Jedi hunting lessons. I take it you or the bounty hunter will be making the actual capture and kill?"

"We'll take care of it 'General'." Ardus replied. Some annomosity still remained between the two.

"Maybe but I've hunted force users before, I know what a bitch it can be." Koren gave the other man a smirk. "We're on the same side remember?" He said refering to their shared Ubiquitorate background.

Ardus nodded then turned to introduce himself to the new bounty hunter.

Kir once again sat in Tarrian's dim, spartan office. Although there was no sound of a door or a footfall, Tarrian appeared from the shadows directly behind his desk and seated himself. As Kir hurriedly rose to salute, Tarrian motioned him back into his chair and spoke. "Mr. Elan," Tarrian began. The form of address - typically reserved for lower ranks than Kir's - was certainly intentional, and the hair on the back of Kir's neck rose. "You have performed well," Tarrian continued. Kir relaxed slightly until the political officer went on in a tone that carried menace in its quietness and even timber. "However, ours is a service best served by subtlety. You have vaunted your inclusion in our work to your superiors, and by extension may have compromised information - even suggestions - which are not meant for public discourse."

Kir felt a few beads of sweat on his forehead as he attempted to answer. "Sir, I never... I mean, I wouldn't... my goals-"

"Your goals are not paramount, Mr. Elan," Tarrian interrupted. "That is perhaps part of the issue." Tarrian bent over a document on his desk then continued, "You are Corellian, are you not?"

"Yes... sir," Kir replied, confused.

"Ever a strong-willed and independent world, Corellia," Tarrian mused absently. "Perhaps some of that spirit is expressed in its native son?"

Kir forgot his anxiety in his indignance. "My loyalty to the Empire is complete and unswerving! The lawlessness in that system is what made me want to serve in the first place."

Tarrian leaned back and regarded Elan. "Very well, flight lieutenant. We will afford you the opportunity to continue to serve. Just remember that you are a pilot in the Starfighter Corps, with a position and a place. We will decide what we require of you, and you will perform such duties discreetly and with regard to any other duties you may have."

"Yes, s-"

"Dismissed." Tarrian turned his back, abruptly terminating the interview. Kir walked thoughtfully back to his quarters where he found the summons to the flight deck. He quickly donned his flight suit, loaded a fresh cell in his DH-17, and waited on the deck at rigid attention.

When Squadron Leader Tarl finally addressed Elan and assigned his flight to screening the ISD's advance, Kir simply responded with a salute and a hearty, "Aye, sir!"

Tarl stopped in his tracks. "No argument or snide remarks, AT-25-03?"

"No, sir!" Elan remained at attention.

"Well, well," Tarl grinned, "maybe I'll get a pilot up who can do what he's supposed to, and WILL do it too. Must be my lucky day."

"Sir, yes sir!"
I can't stand nothing dull
I got the high gloss luster
I'll massacre your ass as fast
as Bull offed Custer
