Possibility of Survivors on the Colonies Themselves
I know that they were bombed to hell, but could there be a chance that there were survivors of the holocaust on all the colonies which had been thrown back to the Stone Age?

Re: Possibility of Survivors on the Colonies Themselves
Very likely, what we saw of the bombing of Caprica wasn't as damaging as was described. One of the cities was virtually intact and Anders was running a resistance cell. So unless the Cylons had Centurions on 24/7 patrol in the millions looking for survivors there must be some somewhere.SuperSaiyaMan12 wrote:I know that they were bombed to hell, but could there be a chance that there were survivors of the holocaust on all the colonies which had been thrown back to the Stone Age?

Anders had a fairly sizable resistance force built up.
Then there's the fact that the Cylons were primarily targeting the cities. Small villages and towns may have escaped the initial salvo. Then people who may have been in cars or on trains heading to and from various cities would have escaped the blasts.

Yeah but if a sizable number of nukes went off I wouldnt bet on the people left alive staying alive for to long, cancer and sterility would kill a lot.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

It depends on how many nukes went off and in what concentration.

It also depends on the kind of nukes, are they dirty, clean, ground, air burst?

Anders talked about meds that helped them deal with the after affects. That and he said that staying a few thousand feet up helped a lot too.

Don't forget the farms. If the Cylons left the colonies, all those people would still be left behind.

Also consider the effects on global climate. That many nukes should push the planet into a nukealar winter.

Re: Possibility of Survivors on the Colonies Themselves
Nuclear winter is just a postulated possibility. The problem with it is that there's no guarantee that enough material would be pushed into the upper atmosphere to have a long term effect. Additionally, it's mostly a concern with lots of ground burst weapons. If they're set off in the atmosphere a few thousand feet up, the most effective way to kill lots of people, they would suck up comparatively little material.

Well, we also know that it never happened. Caprica was almost pristine when Helo and his whore were running around, same with Anders. Yeah there was radiation but none of the extensive cloud or dirt cover one would expect from Sagan's theory.

How complete was the glassing of the Colonies?

Unknown really, we only saw Caprica in any detail and all the structures and whatnot where intact, there just weren't any people. I'm going with the Cylons using neutron bombs myself.Deepcrush wrote:How complete was the glassing of the Colonies?

It's the only way you can kill all those people and leave everything intact. However using neutron bombs virtually guarantees survivors. If you've got enough shielding between you and the bomb you're spared the prompt radiation effects and that's the bomb's whole killing power.

Re: Possibility of Survivors on the Colonies Themselves
Well we already know there where survivors, so it's all wrapped up in a neat little package.
Well, except for the SFX gaffe in the mini showing Caprica getting bombed to oblivion. That's the least of the shows plot holes though.
