Forum unavailable - Final Chance.

Postby IanKennedy » Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:52 pm

The DITL forum will be unavailable from 9am on the 9th April 2011 BST. This is to allow it to move to a faster hardware.

Any rough idea how long it'll be down?

At the moment no, they will need to copy over about 500MB of files (mostly images from the main site) and move the database to the new server. If I had to do it from home then it would take a very long time. However, it's being done by the ISP themselves so they'll far more direct access. It could be as little as 2 hours.

Uh...BST translates into HST how? Like, in the middle of the night?

Hawaii is GMT-10, so 0900BST 9/4/11 would be 2200HST 8/4/11.

That would be 5 am EDT, so the East Coasters here won't miss anything. :D

Anybody would think we planned the time so it happened when most were asleep or something...

Well that was a big fat nothing. I suspended the forum at 8:55am in preparation and waited for things to happen. After an hour or so I had to go out but kept checking my mail throughout the day and nothing happened. I'm back at my computer now and have asked the hosts what's going on. More news when there is any.

Yeah, it does seem that it is running a lot faster too, I thought the same thing when I saw it come up, went through a few forums and it just went, didn't get bogged down, didn't have to go to another tab to entertain myself, it was just there.
