Your computer!

Post by Captain Picard's Hair »

From cell phones to computers, now!

I know that, though we're all Trekkies/Trekkers/Trekkists/Trekkians, whatever the heck we're supposed to be called, many of you wouldn't be able to give technical details. Just say whatever you can about it. Mac/PC, Laptop/Desktop, screen type, etc...

Me: Nice modern sort of budget/mainstream dual core CPU (2.00 GHz) desktop PC. Came installed with Windows XP Professional, though I've recently added Linux on a second hard drive (I Still have Windows on the first). Acer 19" widescreen LCD monitor (at a resolution typical of larger models). 160 GB Windows HDD + 80 GB Linux HDD (Linux can access the Windows drive, so I effectively have 240 GB available in Linux) plus 500 GB external for backup. Logitech cordless keyboard, mouse - love the freedom from wires, and battery life has been far better than I expected! DVD burner, card reader, more USB ports than you can shake a stick at.

Linux has been like a free upgrade (not quite free, since I bought the second HDD rather than partition the first), as it runs my system much faster than XP did - and it's pretty much invulnerable to viruses/malware compared to Windows. I have the Linux version of Firefox 3, and haven't missed Windows yet. Web pages load at hyper speed in this thing. :D

I have a black and silver box, a screen, a keyboard and a mouse. Together, they make a glorified typewriter and allow me to communicate with you gentlemen (and women). Beyond that I haven't the foggiest.

Yeah, same here.

Cheap way out for me - Dell 2100 or 4200 or some other sequence of 4 digits; Pentium 4 processor at 2.3 MHz, 80GB hard drive, CD-R drive, corded optical mouse, stock keyboard, but a nice 19" Viewsonic widescreen LCD monitor.

I really hope you mean GHz, since even a low end PDA gets into the 100 MHz range

Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

Yes, yes, it's just not good enough to call me at work and remind of the difference between "mega" and "giga."

Also.

Honestly, a PC really has to do four things for me:

1. COnnect to the internet.

2. let me write/save my fanfiction.

3. Let me play a SW game with my friends online.

4. Let me play DVDs/CDs.

And that's... pretty much it.

I have a desktop PC at home. It runs Windows XP Profesional.
Moniter: old NEC MultiSync LCD 1530V (no idea what any of that means besides LCD), 15' I think
Keyboard: um... its just a keyboard
Mouse: optical... and just like most other mice
Computer: Intel Celeron CPU, 2.80 GHz, 960 MB RAM (going to add another 512 MB soon)
149.08GB + 42.08 GB (OS on larger drive)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series (I think this is my vidio card)

Honestly, don't know how good or bad my machine is, but it does what I need it to. And for some reason, it doesn't get viruses. Which is a good thing, I'm certainly not complaining.

My laptop will take a while to find the specifications for, not sure where they hide all of the info (runs Linux, not Windows).

I have a laptop.
And desktop.

My laptop currently turns on, while my desktop doesn't seem able to.

And there my computer knowledge ends.

I'm usually on my laptop, a Dell Latitude D510, the only reason I know that much is because it says it right above the keypad.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.
