Best Trek Movie Moment 2: The Wrath of Khan

Post by Varthikes »

Which moment in The Wrath of Khan did you think was the best?

I'm going to say the first battle. That was played out perfectly.

Have voted for the Kirk/David scene at the end.

The battles are brilliant, and to my mind much more exciting then the big fleet battles of DS9.

However, its the scenes where Kirk comes to terms with who he is, and who he could have been that put this movie way above all the others.

Its hard to pick just one, but Kirks conversation with his son is the best of these.

Nebula battle for me. There's just a certain beauty in the way it all played out. And I'm a sucker for seeing two ships going at it, :)

The battle scenes are excellent, but they can't match the emotion of Spock's death. I've lost track of the number of times I've seen the film, but that scene still has me choked up every time.

"Of my friend I can only say this: Of all the souls I have ever encountered, his was the most......human." Very well done, no typical Kirk overacting on Shatner's part. Kudos to him for doing it right.

I certainly did love the Reliant v. Enterprise battle, although it annoyed me that an experienced ship commander should have to be reminded that three dimensions are available to use, but I had to vote for Spock's death. Spock's refusal to admit the emotional side of his sefl-sacrifice, while allowing the subtext to come through, was wonderful.

Yeah, Khan getting his ass whooped because he forgot you can go up in space was a bit silly. :)

Yeah, he was supposed to be an ubersoldier, both physically and intellectually superior, and he got blown up because he forgot space was three-dimensional.

The sad part is, I was talking about Kirk. An experienced starship-combat skipper, and HE had to be reminded by Spock!

Oh, yeah, you're right. Wow, I wonder how many times Spock has had to remind Kirk about something that later saved his life, or covered for Kirk, or pulled Kirk's hind end out of the fire...makes ya wonder, huh?

Dunno why, but I always liked the bit where Kirk is inputting the Prefix code into Saaviks console. Not only is he forced to put his glasses on, but Spock then has to point out one of the switches to him.

Its nice to see that the battle scenes aren't winning the poll. Great as they are, they're not what makes this film the best of them.
