I don't think it's that much of a coincidence to not see the moons. They could be behind the planet, or behind the camera in many of those shots. The standard sort of 'E-D over planetary surface' shot only includes a very small part of the orbit, and the more planet is shown, the less lunar orbit is seen.
I mean, it is something of a coincidence, but it doesn't approach 'pfffthaha' levels for me.
